It's so funny how they pretend to hate Cuba. I think at last count Cuba had something like a few dozen dissidents in jail? Meanwhile Communist China runs over college kids with tanks and commits genocide on a totally peaceful nation (Tibet) and we LOVE them!

The difference is that Castro took a lot of wealth and land holdings from some very powerful US families when he nationalized everything in Cuba (including the Bushes, btw). Conversely, China's government perpetuates a system of near slave labor for those same families and their corporations and has given them the feudal system they always wanted. See the middle class vanish! Goodbye, it was nice knowing you for 200 years....

Don't forget, if the Mexican government hadn't nationalized Hearst's timber holdings and mines in Mexico, it's quite likely that cannabis would never have been banned.

I had high hopes when Clinton came in that he & Hilary would do something, since that was probably their Number One campaign issue. They were talking about socialized medicine. But they ended up doing nothing and costs have exploded since then.

I kind of assumed that they didn't actually do anything because the insurance industry was their #1 campaign contributor. Single-Payer health care (which I favor and the entire rest of the Western world has it) would shut down huge swaths of the insurance industry.

92 was right around the time I decided I'd vote only Libertarian or Green. I felt really let down by Clinton's action on the environment also. He ran very green, but one of the first things he did when came in was to go out to the Northwest and make a deal with the timber companies to continue logging old-growth forest. He also refused to even propose signing the Kyoto treaty for 8 years.

So I am definitely with you in wishing the Republican Party would go extinct or something! I guess I just feel let down by the Democrats. Just trying to explain why I love Ron Paul even though he is under the Repug banner. He would probably be against socialized medicine, but he is VERY anti-war.

All that aside, I think Barack O is the most encouraging mainstream candidate I've seen since becoming an adult. I'm glad he recently received Secret Service protection, I would seriously be afraid of running if I was him. Colin Powell said that the biggest reason he decided not to run was fear for his own safety.
