Cannabis News Protecting Patients Access to Medical Marijuana
Pot Users Relying on Home Delivery

cannabis New York -- In a city where you can get just about anything delivered to your door — groceries, dry cleaning, Chinese food — pot smokers are increasingly ordering takeout marijuana from drug rings that operate with remarkable corporate-style attention to customer satisfaction.

Among the legions of home delivery customers is Chris, a 37-year-old salesman in Manhattan. He dials a pager number and gets a return call from a cheery dispatcher who takes his order for potent strains of marijuana.

"These are very nice, discreet people," said Chris, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition only his first name be used. "There‘s an unspoken trust. It‘s better than going to some street corner and getting ripped off or killed."

But experts say home delivery has been growing in popularity, thanks to a shrewder, corporate style of dealing designed to put customers at ease and avoid the messy turf wars associated with other drugs.

The corporate model — and its profit potential — were demonstrated late last year when the Drug Enforcement Administration announced that it had taken down a highly sophisticated organization dubbed the Cartoon Network. DEA agents arrested 12 people after using wiretaps and surveillance and making undercover buys.

The dealers, working out of a roving call center, processed 600 orders a day — from doctors, lawyers, Wall Street traders — even on Christmas, investigators said. Authorities refused to give names, but in one conversation overheard last October, a courier boasted about the ring‘s upscale clientele, according to court papers.

One former customer named Lucia, a 30-year-old employee at an entertainment cable network, recalled blatant deals done at the company‘s Manhattan headquarters. Executives and employees alike would pool their orders as if they were buying lunch together, then await the arrival of a courier, Lucia said.

"It was kind, kind bud," she said. "Yummy stuff."

The operation‘s alleged mastermind, John Nebel, "should have been the CEO of a Fortune 500 company," said his attorney, Steve Zissou.

At Lucia‘s workplace, employees were "bummed" by the news of Nebel‘s bust, Lucia said. But worries that the office might get raided evaporated, and other dealers stepped in, though "their product does not hold up to Cartoon," she said.

Investigators seized customers‘ names and addresses from the drug operation‘s computer logs. But those people face little risk of prosecution, authorities said.

Authorities conceded the home delivery trade will probably survive because of the high demand for marijuana and the low penalties for dealing it.

Under state law, most marijuana offenses "are not treated as very significant crimes," said Bridget G. Brennen, the city‘s special narcotic prosecutor. "That is why you see the marijuana delivery services proliferating. Their exposure is slight."

That is terrible. I'm not sure what time we are going to vote. Since the Republicans have been in power we no longer vote at a local rural Grange but we have to vote at a Mennonite Church. Churches are fine places to go pray but I think it is wrong to have voting in a Church and hopefully if they lose power in our state we can get it back to our local Grange. Good luck with the voting machines today everyone.

What A Crock!!!
I just voted. At least I tried to. The Diebold "Accu-Vote" machine wasn't taking our ballots! We all had to put our ballots in the compartment at the bottom of the machine while the lady there assured us they would be counted. What a huge crock of shit!!! Anyway, the Greens got my vote. I hope.

FoM, - Nancy Pelosi

H.B. 1782 -- The Federal Medical Marijuana Bill -- Introduced In Congress

http://www.druglibrary.org/olsen/norml/weekly/97-06-05.html

"Rep. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) signed on to the legislation yesterday." (I think that's Representative; not Republican)

June 5, 1997

The score:

C A L I F O R N I A = 420 N E V A D A = 7 C O L O R A D O = 44 prohibitionists = 0

&

California Voter's Guide 2004

Drug Policy Forum of California

The last Congress had only a couple of opportunities to vote on drug reform issues. Of most interest was an amendment co-sponsored by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Orange Co) to prevent the DEA from interfering with state medical marijuana laws. Thanks to support from minority leader Nancy Pelosi (S.F.), California Democrats voted 30 - 2 in favor of the amendment (the renegades were "Valley Democrats" Rep. Joe Baca (San Bernardino) and Rep. Dennis Cardoza (Merced) ). Unfortunately, due to unrelenting pressure from the arch-prohibitionist Republican leadership of Speaker Hastert, only one California Republican, Rep. Mary Bono (Palm Springs), dared to support Rorhrabacher's amendment this year (Rep. Bill Thomas (Bakersfield) supported the measure last year, but switched his vote).

Yeah, George W. came down to Fla. today to support the Republican candidate for governor Charlie Crist, and the guy didn't even have the courtesy to show up!! I think the writing is on the wall.

The polls are looking good for the Democratic challenger in our House district (FL-22). All I know is that in approximately 8 hours, I will be heading to the polls down the street in to kick my Congressman's fat old lazy Republican rubber-stamping ass to the curb.

Have a pleasant evening, all, and get plenty of rest. We'll need it. Something tells me we may have a grueling, nerve-racking day ahead of us tomorrow. Be true to yourself, and vote your conscience (and for any known pro-cannabis candidates, of course).

Peace

I'm mostly holding my tongue on political matters for the next day. People have decided what they are going to do, and they should do whatever they think they should. Nothing I do or say now will or should stop anyone or change anyone's mind at this point.

I voted in my own way, in my own place, by my own rules, for Jack Herer.

I hope that people know that she could possibly be a major factor in our future then. I have mentioned my sister is a serious Republican (retired police woman) and she mentioned how terrible it would be if Nancy Pelosi was in charge but I never asked her why. Why don't Republicans like Nancy Pelosi? Hastert sure isn't my cup of tea.

If they win the House tomorrow Nancy Pelosi will take the place of Hastert if I am getting this right. I did a search and she seems pro medical marijuana. She will have to be better then Dennis Hastert I would think.

It was really good. I hope that the voting goes smoothly tomorrow but it probably won't. The good thing is that many eyes are watching and it will be hard to twist it too far I think. Howard Dean sure did mention the Robo Call story. Keith's commentary was right on once again.

Did you see THAT? Keith hits a Grand Slam!
With Howard Dean (Scorpio) who continued the Robo Call story, thankfully, and then......the tag at the end before the commerccial break where the 'young' teen tells Congressmen to 'give him a call'!

Beautiful, the predator/pedophile/republican closet case story is now 'out there', and ALL Republicans are sexually suspect, and I am pro gay rights etc, as most are here, I safely assume!

These guys do anything to get elected, especially eating their own!

It's the hypocrisy Republicans, and you know it, no one needs to spell it out anymore, even Pat Buchanan (Scorpio), is calling for the overthrow of the Repubs in the latest issue of the Conservative!

Thank the Universe for 5 planets in Scorpio to bring the world to its' senses! (barring Greg Palasts' predictions, which you know will manifest, drat)!

Great coverage! Lawsuits lining up.....
though it may too late to counter the negative effects, we shall see, my prediction: it all unravels after the election and the Repugs are sued for millions in fines, bye-bye GOP!

If Greg Palast is right, we've been screwed already, what do C-Newsers think, well see what happens with vote counting in Colorado surely, there will no controversy, snark!

Check out Gregory Palast! From the Guardian UK:

Here’s how the 2006 mid-term election was stolen.

Note the past tense. And I’m not kidding.

And shoot me for saying this, but it won’t be stolen by jerking with the touch-screen machines (though they’ll do their nasty part). While progressives panic over the viral spread of suspect computer black boxes, the Karl Rove-bots have been tunneling into the vote vaults through entirely different means.

For six years now, our investigations team, at first on assignment for BBC TV and the Guardian, has been digging into the nitty-gritty of the gaming of US elections. We’ve found that November 7, 2006 is a day that will live in infamy. Four and a half million votes have been shoplifted. Here’s how they’ll do it, in three easy steps:

Pizza delivery goodies for NYC....
New York City has a big Cannabis market, a huge amount required for just one weekend. Too bad the doctors and lawyers and CEO's who just LOVE their MJ are not more active in the fight against unjust MJ laws. Many innocent lives have been lost on Rt87 south due to auto or bus accidents because LEO's put up road blocks that were set up they said to catch illegal aliens but more likely also to catch the MJ going south to NYC. The drug business big $$$ for upstate LEO's, in fines, property confiscation, prisons and county jails. People in upstate New York struggle to make honest livings but often it is the poor person who pays the price for NYC residents to be able to get that "special" pizza. Hypocrisy???

it's 'DA KINE' not 'kind'
Aloha

It always cracks me up to see a pidgin phrase anglicized

Back in the early 70's, when Konagold, and Puna Butter, and, oh yeah, Maui Whowie were first being recognized for their higher THC content, locals here would say “hey bust em out, brudda” and "da kine sez you got da kine"

"da kine" being a catch all phrase for any one, or any thing, but when used with regard to pot it meant so sticky it was hard to roll cause you just cant get the stuff off yer hands, resinous, lung expanding to the point of crossed eyed drool and tears and a head rush as deep as the horizon is long

In other words Hawaiian buds [it’s the latitude man if wanna change yer attitude]

Da Kine buds

Now when I hear mainlanders call it 'kind' bud I laugh out loud and twist a fatty of 'da kine'

On another topic I really LOVE feminized seeds several varieties claim 23+% THC; so far so good [wink]

Aloha

...anyone got their number?

St Kitt's delivery please, ya, long distance... :D

But seriously, the polit'ricks that keep prohibition working... it's a crime! grrrrrrr
