cannabis Colorado -- Pot proponents unveiled their second Denver billboard yesterday, which revealed a bikini-clad woman who touts the relative benefits of marijuana over alcohol. “Marijuana: No hangovers. No violence. No Carbs,” the billboard states above the sprawled out bikini model.

The billboard will appear at two locations in Denver — 1381 W. Alameda Ave., and a separate location which was not immediately announced yesterday.

The billboard serves in support of ballot initiative Amendment 44, which would legalize the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana for adults, 21 years of age and older.

The billboard on Alameda Avenue is positioned just steps away from the Great American Beer Store. Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER), the amendment 44 proponents, contend that marijuana is relatively safe compared to alcohol.

“We will continue to do everything in our power to make people think about the fact that our laws irrationally drive people to drink and prohibit the use of marijuana,” said Amendment 44 campaign director Mason Tvert.

“Many members of the public seem willing to accept the fact that laws pushing people toward alcohol increase the likelihood of family and community violence and even death. Maybe the fact that Americans are being driven to higher carbohydrate intake will finally cause people to reconsider the value of our current laws.”

Amen, Truth
This is one of the glaring contradictions of legal alcohol. There is no other legal choice, pharma-sorcery aside. No other recreational drug, legal or not, commercially produced, or home lab produced "drug" is more natural than cannabis, none more biologically compatible, and none more provably statistically SAFER . None!

I, and others, could tell the public some awful stories about drunk people that would never be approached, mush less matched, by enlightened, ok, STONED, people. Remember that stupid shit you said last weekend to the woman you claim to love? Well, that wouldn't have happened with cannabis. Remember getting angry and striking your child because the alcohol had made you so depressed that you just wanted to lash out at someone? Anyone? I was never violent with my family or friends, but a few guys could have avoided collisions with me if they had been stoned, and not drunk. And as well, I could have avoided confrontations with these kind of people as well, had I not ALSO been drinking.

Experience is still the best teacher. Listen to those who have walked both sides of the issue. Alcohol-ANGER. Cannabis-Calm. This can be scientifically proven, also, by the way.

Whether 44 passes or not, this initiative should go national next year. It's an undeniable fact. CANNABIS IS SAFER!

Toke.

Death by legislation
I have a cousin that's getting a new/used kidney on the 8th of Nov. He was raised in an alcohol culture, I was a witness. Our government's misguided cannabis policies left him only one choice.

Spain
Wonder how things have been playing out in Spain where small amounts of cannabis are now legal? Portugal too? Any stats yet?

Infinitely less safe, and they know it
No. they know that won't fly because of the easily available (and staggering) death statistics for alcohol. Instead they just keep on trying to insinuate the "dangers" of cannabis without, in most cases, spelling out what they claim they are. When they do try to trot out fake statistics, like that hapless old lady on the TV debate, they sound totally stupid. They're fighting against mountains of experiential data and just good old common sense.

Actually Safer?
Have any of the prohibitionists come back and state matter of factly that Alcohol is safer than herb? Because it seems like a no brainer, unless you are drunk or brainwashed. I have been following Tvert pretty well, but I don't see where any of his opponents have come out and said that alcohol is safer.

It's funny that all the prohibitionists can do is say "use will go up if the law is passed." There is little anecdotal evidence of this anywhere and most studies state that it stays the same or goes down when prohibition ends. Are they still reciting the Alaska "teens use it more when it was decrimilized". What about all the other states that are decrim, what is their record like?
