Endocannabinoid System Plays Significant Role In Embryonic Development, Study Says August 3, 2006 - Nashville, TN, USA Nashville, TN: The endocannabinoid system plays a significant role in the development of healthy embryos and their implantation in the womb, according to preclinical data published this month in the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Researchers at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee reported that experimentally inducing elevated amounts of the endogenous cannabinoid anadamide and/or THC in newly mated mice "deferred on-time [embryo] implantation" and was associated with "poor pregnancy outcome." Previous preclinical studies investigating the role of endogenous cannabinoids in prenatal development have shown that the body temporarily reduces the localized production of anadamide during embryonal implantation. Though some researchers speculate that smoking large quantities of cannabis during this period could negatively impact this biological process, there is - to date - a lack of clinical or epidemiological data supporting the theory. "Nevertheless, it is apparent that a properly functioning endocannabinoid system is essential for both a healthy pregnancy and child," NORML Senior Policy Analyst Paul Armentano said. Previous studies indicate that the endogenous cannabinoid system plays a primary role in the development of memory and oral motor skills in newborns. Some researchers theorize that a dysfunctional endocannabinoid system (such as one that under produces anandamide) may be responsible for the development of certain abnormalities in infants - particularly so-called 'failure-to-thrive' syndrome, a condition in which newborns fail to properly grow and gain weight. In preclinical trials, infant mice fail to feed from their mothers when their cannabinoid receptors are blocked by the presence of a synthetic antagonist. In recent years, scientists have determined that the endocannabinoid receptor system is involved in the regulation of several primary biological functions including appetite, body temperature, mood elevation, blood pressure, bone density, reproductive activity, learning capacity, and motor coordination. DL: http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6965 Alaska: AG Requests Supreme Court To Rule On Pot Recriminalization Measure August 3, 2006 - Juneau, AK, USA Juneau, AK: The state Attorney General's office filed notice last week with the Alaska Supreme Court seeking to overturn a recent Superior Court ruling that found the legislature's effort to criminalize small amounts of cannabis to be unconstitutional. In July, an Alaska Superior Court judge struck down provisions of a new state law that sought to redefine minor marijuana possession as a criminal offense punishable by jail time. The Alaska ACLU filed suit to block enforcement of the law, arguing that it violated the privacy clause of the state constitution, which provides that "the right of the people to privacy is recognized and shall not be infringed." In a 1975 Alaska state Supreme Court ruling (Ravin v State), justices determined that this constitutional provision encompassed the possession and use of small amounts of cannabis in the home. Superior Court judge Patricia Collins ruled last month that the Alaska legislature lacks the authority to override the Supreme Court's 1975 decision, finding that the Ravin decision "is the law until and unless the Supreme Court takes contrary action." Collin's ruling struck down sections of the new law criminalizing the possession of one ounce or less of cannabis, but left in place measures prohibiting the possession of greater amounts. Governor Frank Murkowksi (R), who strongly advocated for the new law, has argued that Ravin should no longer apply in Alaska because cannabis may pose greater health and safety risks today than it did in 1975. Sponsored by Sensible Santa Barbara, the measure directs municipal police to make activities related to the investigation, citation, and/or arrest of adult cannabis users their lowest priority. It would also appoint a Community Oversight Committee to monitor police activity as it pertains to marijuana law enforcement. Seattle voters passed a similar proposal in 2003, which has led to a 75 percent reduction in citywide marijuana arrests. According to the results of a November 2005 city poll, nearly 80 percent of Santa Barbara voters oppose incarcerating convicted cannabis offenders, and 67 percent believe that "marijuana users should be treated the same, under the law, as alcohol users." In June, West Hollywood City Council officials voted in favor of a resolution calling on Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies to not "target adult marijuana users who consume this drug in private and pose no danger to the community." Santa Cruz voters will decide on a similar municipal ballot measure in November. | I was worried you weren't going to be able to make it. I am so glad you can come. Here is the schedule. We are going to the Ohio show with two people who live next to us out here. They rent from us. Then the final show is September 10th and that's the one that you and Mrs. Toker00 and Afterburner are to go too. I am so excited I can barely stand it. This is so cool to be able to meet you and celebrate Freedom of Speech together. The tour is having it's week off now and then the final leg will start in West Palm Beach and work it's way up and around the east coast. They are having on in Washington, DC too! | I'm doing...fine. I have taken a couple of weeks to just come here and read, without posting. Just wanted to step back and see you guys continue the marvelous battle for truth. We are gearing up for some (I hope) very large protests in Houston, prior to the mid-terms. Bush and his fascist regime are going to be harder to pull down than I thought. Even after six years of beatings by the truth, Bush is still here, the American people are still sheepish. Dankhank, did you make enough copies of the 9-11 Scholars Symposium to send me a couple of copies if I send you the green? My entire work crew watched this, at my insistence, and now our side grows. Most were completely blown away, and each for a different reason. Now the truth marches on. FoM, the concert in Ohio is in Aug., right, and the last show is in Penn.? | i don't know anymore. it's all so blown out of proportion i think, all of their ranting against.....
we know proof. i have living proof.
but i don't know what you do when you don't know what to do anymore. because i don't. i don't know how to fight anymore, i don't think i was designed for such arduous battle. i just don't.
i'm sick on top of it. they take away our main ally and help, this plant. what can we do?
i'm powerless without it.
what do you do then, when all the power is gone from you? all the oxygen, all the life support, what every cell knows.....

| this week the Traverse City Film Festival is in full swing, its the second year that Michael Moore has showings of some of the hardest hitting films of all times. Last night i had a chance to see "Who Killed The Electric Car" Directed by Chris Paine about how both the EV {Electric Vehicle}and ZEV {Zero Emission Vehicle} were smashed by the auto -oil-mega-corporate complex.
Gee i had no idea of how the Auto Companies sued CA. to stop the Zero Emissions Law from having any teeth in 2003 then destroyed EVs. Brilliant film must see for every American wishing to clean the air and get off imported OIL.
Well just so happens that after the film the Host Michael Moore comes out and meets with the people. It was great as i had a chance to meet Mr. Moore and hand him a copy of the LEAP DVD and asked him to please view it to which he said he would be glad to see it and thanked me for the copy.

| Very little primal fear left in me too as far as attack chihuhuha's go ... the new thing is to cross-breed dogs like jack russels & chiuhuha's ... jackuhuh's they call em .. I think when you intoduce a different blood line of species, they make for a heartier, stronger mix breed of dog. Years of inbreeding amongst purebreds make for some really unhealthy pure bloodline breeds ... but I have only a cat, so what do I know? [ Post Comment ] |

In a rather bizarre twist, a cannabinoid based drug called (Rimonabant) has been developed to control obesity and is currently being marketed in Europe. Based on the knowledge that marijuana stimulates ones appetite by binding to a particular receptor site in the brain (CB1), Rimonabant was developed to block that receptor site, rendering one “without munchies.”
While Johns Hopkins scientists are studying compounds that would prevent the psychoactive effect of marijuana, researchers in Spain are exploring cannabinoids’ potential for inhibiting cancer cell growth and trigger cell death. Marijuana pharmaceutical products may be a good choice for some. But given the fact that in its natural form it is safe and effective, using the whole plant should not be ruled out.
South Dakota Attorney General Misinforms Voters
The only statewide medical marijuana initiative this November will be in South Dakota. Attorney General Larry Long, unhappy about the prospects of the initiative winning, is attempting to thwart the election by including misinformation on theballot language.
The Marijuana Policy Project, threatening to sue, points out the last sentence of the Attorney General’s explanation, “…is flat wrong, in addition to being biased. The federal courts have already ruled that physicians cannot be prosecuted or have their licenses stripped from them just for recommending the medical use of marijuana.” If not criminally illegal, it is clearly ethically wrong for an Attorney General to lie to the voters of his state.

Responsible people during this period avoid these substances, yet the government insists on locking up young people who use cannabis, fathers who use cannabis, the government is actively pursuing to displace and destroy more families through its over riding campaign against cannabis use while in the meantime it is effectively ignoring the more dangerous scourges of meth. There is no excuse for ignorance that these people in government exhibit from day to day, the day is coming, when reckoning will be these fools greatest concerns. [ Post Comment ] |
