| Marijuana Bill Simply Sent Off To Its Execution |

Santa Fe -- Speaker of the House Ben Lujan got Rep. Joe Stell of Carlsbad to do his dirty work for him this past session and ensure that a medical marijuana bill passed early in the Senate would never be heard in the House.It was Stell, and not Lujan, who had to sit by stonefaced as frail, 61-year-old AIDS patient Essie DeBonet wailed repeatedly through heavy sobs, "Why are you trying to kill us?" after he cast the deciding vote in denying DeBonet the only medication she says will allow her to deal with the nausea caused by her disease and keep down the food she needs to stay healthy. It was by far the most dramatic and heart-wrenching moment in a legislative session that otherwise sputtered to an inconclusive finish. In truth, the bill never should have been in Stell's committee. Lujan made his displeasure with the bill known shortly after it passed the Senate, telling New Mexican reporter Steve Terrell, "I would have hoped that the first bills passed would have addressed issues that are more at the forefront of what the general public really wants." He vowed that he would not keep the bill from being heard, and then did just that by referring it to Stell's Agriculture and Water Resources Committee -- a conservative committee made up entirely of rural legislators. Rep. Joseph Cervantes, who serves on that committee, pointed out the obvious when he noted that the bill had nothing to do with water resources or agriculture. Whatever agricultural expertise would have been required to carry out the bill, if it had passed, is pretty much common knowledge on the Internet. "This bill is here for a reason. It's been sent here to kill it," Cervantes told his fellow committee members before they voted to make that prediction a reality. It happens all the time in the Legislature. Leaders who don't want to be bothered with controversial bills send them off to a hostile committee, never to be heard from again. It is why New Mexico is one of only two states that still allows cockfighting. Sen. Mary Jane Garcia's bill to ban cockfighting died last year in the Senate Conservation Committee following a full afternoon of testimony, including that of a man who said it was more cruel to spay and neuter a cat. That is the logic that won the day. The medical marijuana bill dealt primarily with two issues -- medicine and law. Cervantes, an attorney who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, is the only member of the Ag Committee with any expertise in either of those two areas, and the only member who supported the bill. The only other lawmakers taking part in the discussion with specific expertise in either of those two areas were Sens. Cisco McSorley, an attorney, and Steve Komadina, a physician. And they were both there to support the bill. Sadly for people like Essie, they didn't have a vote. | Kap, you're right. I was so afraid they were going to kill him. The only consolation I could think of was, that at least, if they did, Michelle and the girls would have enough money to likely live the rest of their lives well on the proceeds from the lawsuit that WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN if he died in that jail. Such profundity is beyond the ability of man to withstand collectively at this time, thus there are 'Seals.' The way is there, the right thinking, right behaving, right aspect of being, is all laid out in a map that needs only childlike sincerity to percieve. The error is in the world view, and the fears of humanity which fertilize the fields of corruption. The 'locking of the way' done by constraining doctrines (defintion of 'religion'= to constrain or hold back) says that no revelatory experience, is/was possible after the advent, that the common gift to man of his conscience was no longer a personal responsibility, but thereafter delegated to the 'authority' of 'christ.' "You cannot 'talk' to God, only 'jesus' can do that!" (Funny how them telling me that didn't stop my own inner conversation with my creator. But of course I met Him before I met the 'church.') Therefore the only 'righteousness' available to man is through the 'intercession' of -you-know-who. Thus it is prudence which even we can understand the wisdom which adjures us to 'pray in secret,' not to put on public displays of 'piety.' In the letter, Kubby said he had "developed a profound respect for the professional and highly dedicated staff and officers here." The short note eventually found its way to Placer County Sheriff Ed Bonner, who met with Kubby last week. "He said it was an honor to meet me," Kubby said Monday after his release. "I was floored. | It was the hard drive. With the good directions from the link that CQ posted my husband took the drive from a computer we have that has a dead motherboard and put the hard drive in my main computer. | "Lawsuit". As in 'wrongful death'. That's what his jailors feared. But now, something else has happened. Everyone familiar with the case - on both sides - now have proof positive of the medicinal qualities of cannabis and cannabis derivatives. But they have also been enlightened as to the obvious benefits of 'natural' 'raw' cannabis as opposed to the artificial sort that Mr. Kubby is limited to. His health wasn't suffering before he was forced to cease taking the natural herbal form, and he is barely surviving thanks to Marinol. Should he continue to survive this latest attempt on his life by The State, he will stand as a public rebuke of all the lies told by the DrugWarriors about the value of 'crude, raw' cannabis. (Are you reading this, "Doctor" Barthwell?) Mr. Kubby's continuing trial by fire was much more than a personal struggle; it was a turning point. | it was the jailers that forced a decision to release Kubby.It gives me hope that there may still be a spark of humanity within the beast. Of course it could be they feared legal repercussions if Kubby died, and acted in their own interests by distancing themselves from the crime. Either way is good, one shows they may have a spark of decency left, the other shows that they realize we aren't silent victims anymore, and the is going to be consequences for the harm that has been done. | So it was the jailers that insisted he be let out? That's wonderful. I know it's because they were afraid they were going to be responsible for killing him...but that's an excellent reason. I'm so glad they weren't so cruel as to carry out the judge's and the prosecutor's wishes. The jailers? That's just wonderful. The jailers were ones getting the mail, too. I'm so grateful. | My problem was due to a blocked referrer, which is something I have my firewall configured to do. I just had to set up an exception for this website which allows the referrer to be sent. | But a mutual friend, Sukoi, has been unable to post anything on CNEWS. I've been trying to help him but haven't had any luck; he keeps getting 403 errors when he tries. And I can't say how glad I am that Steve Kubby is out of that hell-hole, but it's only because of the pressure of those who've written and called. Don't let up; the swine trying to kill him (yes, they KNOW DAMN WELL WHAT THEY ARE UP TO, AND WE'RE CALLING THEM OUT ON IT) think we'll forget, so they can do him in when no one's looking. What he's gone through already proves the medical efficacy of 'raw' cannabis, when a nominally healthy person becomes as ill as he has thanks to the (contemptuous spitting) 'tender mercies' of the Placer County officials. Richard Cowan is bang on target with his analysis. They're scared his death will be laid at their feet, and rigthly so. He has every right to sue them for what's happened. And a punishingly expensive lawsuit - on top of the God knows how much has been spent on bringing him down - would sear into their minds that some expenses never have to be made. | After the former Governor of New Mexico appeared at a NORML Conference, after hearing about a Medical Cannabis Bill was submitted to New Mexico legislature, I was pleased and felt that progress was being made. Now we have the bad legislators seeking to subvert the will of the people! Here in New Jersey there is a similar problem. N.J. State Senate Health Committee Chairman Joseph Vitale, who has a highly secure office on Main Street, in Woodbridge, New Jersey, REFUSED TO POST THE S. 2200 MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILL FOR A VOTE! Afterwards, then-U.S. Senator Jon Corzine promised during N.J. State Governor's campaign debate to sign any Medical Marijuana Bill that comes to his desk. What has happened? After the New Jerseyans voted for him [a Democrat], N.J. State Assemblyman Reed Gusciora submitted a Medical Marijuana Bill in the State Assembly and N.J. State Senator Scutari [who is also the municipal prosecutor for Linden] submitted S. 2200 Medical Marijuana Bill. I have not heard of ANY progress on these Med Pot Bills, either. That teacher in Denver Colorado High School is absolutely correct that Bush is a Nazi! A retired attorney at law, John Loftus, worked for the United States Department of Justice Nazi Hunter section. He has written a book entitled THE SECRET WAR AGAINST THE JEWS, wherein he details his information that the Grandfather and Great Grandfather of U.S. President George W. Bush, along with Rockefeller, financed 40% of Adolph Hitler's steel manufacturing, until around 1951!! They also provided shipments of Standard Oil of New Jersey [later named Esso, later named Exxon] to Adolph Hitler, during an Oil Embargo.
