  DEA Returns and Raids SF Medical Marijuana Club

medical San Francisco -- Drug Enforcement Administration agents raided a medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco this evening, just hours after protesters celebrated scaring the DEA agents away.

The daylong protest involved nearly 100 demonstrators who gathered outside HopeNet, a medical marijuana co-op at 223 Ninth St., after DEA agents raided the home of the co-op's directors this morning.

Steve and Cathy Smith's home in the 200 block of Santa Clara street was raided before dawn today, according to Hillary McQuie with Americans for Safe Access, a national coalition that works to protect the rights of medical marijuana users.

The DEA seized about 126 starter plants, dried medicine and paperwork from the home, McQuie said.

This afternoon, protesters did their best to stare down DEA agents who sat in a vehicle outside the Ninth Street facility, apparently waiting for a go-ahead to raid the dispensary.

After two and a half hours, the agents turned around and left, and the protesters thought they had won.

`There was a jubilant outcry of victory,` said Hilary McQuie with Americans for Safe Access, a national coalition that works to protect the rights of medical marijuana users.

However, sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., the DEA returned to Ninth Street and raided the facility, seizing a number of marijuana-based goods including brownies and butter, according to DEA spokeswoman Casey McEnry.

Additionally, shortly before the Ninth Street raid, DEA agents raided a San Francisco warehouse and seized about 500 marijuana plants, McEnry said.

McEnry said more information on the two evening raids would be available on Wednesday.

`I am totally in shock and bewildered,` Steve Smith said this afternoon of the raid on his home. `I don't know how I am going to take care of my patients. Some are dying right now.`

A Great Christmas Song
Patrick,

I don't think TSO was involved in the Miller Lite commercial since it was a family in Ohio that made the light display using TSO's one song. Since Miller came and recorded the light show to use TSO has to get some credit since it is their song. I'm sure the money they get for the use of the song will help them with the growth of TSO. At one of their shows they gave a child a guitar and another child $100. They act like the Spirit of Christmas at their shows I've read in their guestbook. Here's a great song to enjoy this holiday season.

I first saw that Christmas light show a few weeks ago in an email and tonight it's part of a Miller Light beer ad on TV during a college bowl game!

How American, a residential Christmas light show now can sell "tax and regulated" booze to the masses all the while cannabis plants are still seized in California at gun point?

Merry Xmas!
Hey, the kristians stole the holiday from the pagans, so let's not offend any other religions with our using his name in it. Not that I really care. Just stoned and rambling. I'm pretty sure that there hasn't been a single day since April of this year that I have missed in my usage of Cannabis.

I figure that it has probably been instrumental in relieving the stress of believing that all this was all supposed to make sense somehow. That people matter. That our lives are supposed to be for something greater than ourselves. I don't know if that is true any more. Not really. But, I don't really care anyway.

I enjoy this freakshow carnival ride I call my life. I'm sorry, but I think that if more people could just take a moment and look around at how stupid our entire species is, it would be very hard to stop laughing. Think of all eternity and all space. No matter what, we are so tiny in all of it. How can we be so pompous as to believe that our species survival is important?

And yet, our history is replete with examples of people thinking they have some moral authority over another. And then they translate that into some sick legal system that only corrupts those whom it touches.

Personally, the government can kiss my ass. Who are they anyway? Are they even relevant to a modern society? Can they continue along this path and will the world survive? The world will. But, I don't think the universe would miss such a stupid species as us if we don't grow up.

Maybe in a million years or so we will matter. And then all of this would have mattered. But if we keep on belieiving that the way our society is structured is good enough, then we won't matter at all.

I'm just here to enjoy the ride. I just had an amazing conversation with a friend a I made here concerning the changing nature of government in the world. A lot of people have a lot of information now. A lot of people have access to a Master Mind now (this would be a search engine). And that means a lot of change is going on. Cool.

I think we have an amazing opportunity to truly become an enlightened society. There is all this opportunity, but most of us aren't even here anyway. How "here" can you be if you're on your cell phone while riding a motorcycle! And we're the dominant life-form of all creation? Give me a break.

I just visited a web site that this friend mentioned. It is the epic 2014 museum thing. just type those words in google and you'll get it. It's a techno version of the future. Not to my liking, but hey, it's an alternate future that is extremely possible. As possible as any other future we want. What kind of future do you want? I just know that this societal change will come a lot sooner than 2014.

I hope that I can predict the day of legalization a lot better than I can predict the weather. But, at least there is an expiration date for my prediction. 31 Dec 05. Doesn't matter to me though. I find I don't have a vision of the future. I'm too busy enjoying today.

I know Cannabis will be legal soon. I'm just enjoying watching it all play out. I see it coming in so many different ways. It's awesome how so many forces are combining in order to have a global hemp-based economy. But even if I'm wrong, I'm okay with that. All decisions are truly democratic in a society. Your level of participation in a government determines it's success. Non-participation can be the ultimate form of disagreement with a government anyway. Who are they to tell me how to live my brief moment of this gift of life?

Maybe Cannabis isn't good for me. Who knows? Why is it anyone else's business anyway? Damn Tamiflu apparantly helps the bird flu become fatal and you don't hear the damn government sending in goons with guns after Rumsfield do you? Of course not. Why? Because Amerikans are fat and lazy. We are consumer zombies. Or maybe, we just don't give a rat's ass about this government anymore. They are quickly becoming irrelevant to the needs of the society. And they are scared.

Anyway it goes though, I'm sure it's going to be a hell of a ride. I'm just here to enjoy the show. I don't celebrate xmas. Every day is xmas to me. Truly it is. But, it would be nice to have Cannabis legal for xmas. But either way, I'm still going to have a big old fattie for xmas if I'm still here. Maybe even two! Peace, Jim

Well, actually it stands for Department of Egos and Assholes. These guys live on testosterone and the smell of dirty socks. They have all these gadgets our "government" has given them to use on us, and they chomp at the bit constantly for a chance to use them. They would love for our movement to become violent so they could actually KILL someone. For now though, they'll be content to humiliate and aggravate. The patients don't even figure in their thoughts. What patients? Cannabis isn't medicine. How could there be Cannabis patients?

Attend every rally you can and be as loud as possible. March on Brothers and Sisters.

Wage peace on war. END CANNABIS PROHIBITION NOW!

Global Warming- You know, I've been trying real hard to see how this is going to play out. It's very disturbing, and it seems it is going to get worse. I thought after the major hit on the clubs in San Diego, the feds might start to work their way north, but not this far north, and not this quickly. The timing is highly suspect, too. They say it's been a 2 year investigation, but why right before the holidays? How totally cruel. No surprise, of course, seeing that it's the DEA. What's puzzling though, is there are thousands of growrooms all over California, with millions of plants, and this is where they decide to make a hit? A medical marijuana club in San Francisco? They must be testing the resolve of city officials here. I think the best solution to the feds verses state's right issue is where a CITY starts growing medical cannabis. It would be in direct conflict with federal law, and a showdown would make national news. Certainly San Francisco, and its residents will not tolerate more of its clubs to be pillaged, and closed by the DEA. Very soon, the feds will have gone too far, and this might very well be their fatal flaw.

A well-known San Francisco medical cannabis dispensary (MCD) was raided yesterday by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Pre-dawn, federal agents entered the home of Steve and Catherine Smith and seized plants and money, before turning their attention on the collective they run, HopeNet.

There they faced off with about 60 activists and patients who gathered to protest the raid, including San Francisco supervisors Ross Mirkarimi and Chris Daly. California State Assemblyman Mark Leno, formerly a San Francisco Supervisor, also made a statement condemning the attacks. After several hours, the agents left, but they returned after dark when the crowd had dispersed to break down the door and enter the collective.

No arrests were made, but medical marijuana advocates are outraged that HopeNet was targeted by the DEA. HopeNet is an exemplary dispensary which adheres scrupulously to local and state law. At the invitation of city supervisors, the collective participated in drafting San Francisco's recently passed Medical Cannabis Act, the ordinance regulating medical cannabis dispensaries, after working closely with DPA staff on developing and promoting smart legislation for several years.

With this needless raid, the federal government squandered resources, denying critically ill people access to their medicine in the process. "This dispensary provides a vital public health service, and the Smiths should be commended, not punished, for their compassion," said Camilla Norman Field of the Drug Policy Alliance.

Okay, we have thousands of us that pop in here everyday and really do care that those in need have access to medicial cannabis and see its prohibition as a crime against humanity however we are unable to appear on the picket line in support due to one's location on the planet. The question is how does one take this virtual audience and transform them into a force to be reckoned with? What would Gandhi do?

I once thought (still do)a mail protest, an act of civil disobedience and non-violent protest, say an address is posted, one that is used by the DEA in CA, now say everyone who cares takes the time to roll a fatty, be it catnip, oregano or herb even, tag it with a $.37 stamp (good for the PO) and off it to that address, include any rant you wish. Okay, what effect would something that simple have? Certainly it would give them something to do, opening the letters. They'll get a real gander at how little their efforts have on curbing med/pot use. Imagine thousands of fatties appearing at their door with no return addresses, let them sort through what is pot and what is not.

Just a thought.

But of course, they'll find something illegal of such an endeavor, the mail thing, they claim something most lilkely using the word 'terror' or narco whatever, but all's fair in love and war on some drugs.

Cannabis is medicine.

Commendable, but if they think a single one of those protectors of children had a choice about what they were about to do they were sadly mistaken. If anything the agents were just steeling themselves to perform one of the slightly less pleasant elements of their necessary job and in the end they know they are helping the patients get some real medicine.

How close am I to the DEA [Neo-Gestopo Americanish]? I live in small community. I used to practice yoga in my wife's yoga class with the Medford DEA Team leader and his best friend who was also my wife's good friend for five years before we married and untill Kevin Quinn and his band of thugs raided our house on day. I got to know much about these guys up close and personal. Here is what I know about your average DEA agent. He or she will be a reject from another job or agency. Former Leos who have been fired for, drunkeness, brutality, theft, drug dealing, incompetance. All of which they are still but it seems no self respecting citizen wants to rob and terrorize their fellow countrymen. These guys fit the exact same peofile as Hitler's Brownshirts and Gestopo. Stalin had a simular federal police force whom he called useful idiots and expendable. He and Hitler proved their feelings about these people by exterminating thousands of them when they proved no longer useful. There is nothing more useful to a facist than a well paid troglodyte. Give one a fancy uniform. a shinny new gun, and more money than he/she could earn doing anything honest and you will have a trained attack dog for life. Many of them like Kevin set lucritive drug dealing orginizations. They are golden in these endevors. Who is going to catch them? Who will investigate them? Their buddies? Have you not heard of honor among theives? These guys are more crooked than any drug dealer. I know from 40 years in the underground herb culture that a dishonest neighborhood herb vendor will not stay in buisness very long. A gun totting NGA would not be worthy to clean the resin off of an honest herb vendors tribeam. Well also, I happen to know, around here the Narcs love to make raids two weeks before Christmas to pick up extra Xmas money and presents from the honest hard working folks they were legally robbing. This is now all very American. The America we live in. The America we must change.

Heres a by the way, The DEA was created by Nixon because he had no law enforcement authority in the verious states. He went against all recomdations to create the CSA, created by the most part by Reinquist then a young lawyer in Nixon's administration. He was rewarded for his efforts and betrayal to America by being appointed as the supreme court justice. The CSA is a very clumbsy assertion into the commerce clause of the constitution. It survives because it serves so many. This one "act" has nearly demolished our rights and the constitution. Yet it still survives! A stake needs to be driven throu the heart of this evil document that allows an agency like the DEA to exist.

Lindsay Tries To Ban Pot Stores

LINDSAY - The City Council piggybacked off of another local city in its attempt to eradicate medical marijuana dispensaries in the city limits.

But their laws do not jibe with the state's leading law enforcement official, Attorney General Bill Lockyer.

Taking a page from Exeter City Council's recent actions, Lindsay's governing board simply added a sentence to the Municipal code that in effect ends the operation of medical pot stores in the city.

Section 18.01.090 of the city code says that “No use of land, under this Title, shall be permitted within the City Limits if such use shall be in violation of any local, state, or federal laws.”

First of all there is no more compassion in the DEA than there was in the Gestapo.

I think they are doing it now because most Americans are to busy and distracted with Christmas to take notice of an overarching bunch of government thugs coming down on terminally ill people.

Cannabis in the news is overshadowed by everything else going on right now. I had hoped that some of the media would pick up on the big bad central government harrassing ill people at Christmas time. They said after the Supreme Court ruling thta they had no intention of harassing ill people but..........there you have it. Once again, this administration shows their true colors....and it is dishonesty and deception with every step they take.

Could they be anymore grinch or scrooge like?

That's so much a part of it. Even at Woodstock the helicopters were friendly. Fear of man and what he can do to you is a terrible emotion.

We must keep on smiling thru our fear and then we win.

Tis the season to be jolly! What has happened to our country? Can we find any peace with our family or with each other? Something seems to have died since the 60s in many people's hearts. What died? I try to figure it out but I never come to any conclusions. It's easy to be angry and complain but why has this all happened to our society?

The link you posted is over my head but I can comment on how our government is digging it's own grave. I agree that what is going on in our current government is so wrong and very obvious to me. I'll simply call it Spin. They spin issues so they all appear connected and then citizens get confused and return to a comfort zone they live in because it all becomes too much to take. People get turned off and consider change hopeless. Then they win. The Internet helps us keep our heads screwed on straight if we pay attention.

The US gov's crackpot 'governance' has become too much to bear.

How don't know how much longer it will last, but the US gov is digging its own grave.

The war on drugs, the war on terror, the war on rights, the war on Christmas, the war on anything and everything must come to a screeching halt. The US gov cannot afford to do it anymore.

My Feelings About All of This
We are only a few days away from Christmas. People that follow the news are scattered buying presents or going to partys etc. It's a season that we drawl closer to our family and friends. That is what bothers me so much why now at Christmas do they do these raids? Why not be a little kind and wait until after the New Year and let people be happy at least for a little while.

This *is* a war. They are making war on us. It is no more a metaphor than the war on terror. They will use increasing force and they will do anything they think they have to do, regardless of illegality, to "win." In fact, they cannot win.
