Pot Backers Protest Hick |
Posted by CN Staff on October 28, 2005 at 16:28:33 PT By Alan Gathright, Rocky Mountain News Source: Rocky Mountain News Colorado -- Pro-pot forces, fuming that the staff of Denver's brewpub-owning mayor laughed off their debate challenge with a munchies joke, protested at City Hall today with props including a mock "alcohol poisoning" corpse surrounded by jugs from the mayor's Wynkoop Brewery and a pile of Oreos and Doritos bags. "It simply shows that the mayor does not mind that his drug of choice that he sells to this city can lead to death and violence and the drug that he opposes simply leads to — as they put it — the worst case scenario is the munchies," said Mason Tvert, head of the group sponsoring Initiative 100 on Tuesday's ballot. If passed, the ballot measure would change Denver law to make it legal for adults to posses 1 ounce or less of marijuana. The major theme of the Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative is that adults should have the legal right to choose marijuana, which proponents call a safer alternative to booze, blaming that legal drug for fueling deadly violence, car wrecks, collegiate binge-drinking and alcoholism. Supporters also posted a second Denver billboard today, at Santa Fe Drive and Alameda Avenue, stating: "Annual Deaths. Alcohol: 19,928. Marijuana: 0. Plain. Honest. Fact. Vote Yes on I-100." Tvert said the fatality figures are "conservatively" based on national statistics for liver disease and alcohol overdoses. Mayor John Hickenlooper hasn't actively campaigned against the measure, but he's said that he opposes legalizing marijuana because it's a "gateway drug" that can lead to destructive addictions. I-100 backers were infuriated when the mayor's spokeswoman responded to a protest Wednesday at City Hall by saying Hickenlooper was "focused on issues that actually matter to Denver," adding that the measure would have no impact because pot possession cases will continue to be prosecuted under state law. The mayor's acting chief of state, Cole Finegan, was quoted in the Denver Post joking about whether to "orchestrate a shipment of Oreos and Doritos" to pot protestors. The mayor's spokeswoman, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent, said today: "If this handful of folks is genuinely concerned about the dangers of alcohol, they should spend their time trying to bring back Prohibition. No matter how creative they get, state law will still make marijuana illegal in Denver regardless of the initiative's outcome." I got the same MPP letter, FoM. The illustration is to make everyone who sees it aware that our government is not kidding about waging a war on it's own people. Many innocent victims have fallen at the hands of these militarized thugs. The point is, they are not joking, and we need to stop these attacks on cannabis users, and innocent victims. It is ridiculous that our government sends these groups of thugs out against American citizenry! This is no different than the SS troops of Nazi Germany. FoM, I think it is a matter of simply removing yourself from their mailing list. It was not right for them to send you unsolicited mail, but they at least provided you with valuable information, unlike the unsolicited junk ads you receive in your mail, too. Besides that, you are famous in the cannabis reform circle, and they would love to have your support, as they are supporting the same cause you are. Freedom to Inhale. Does this make sense? Wage peace on war. END CANNABIS PROHIBITION NOW! [ Post Comment ] |

Thank you for your reply. It came at a good time for me. I have been wondering for some time as to how to help find a way to ignite the passion on a broader national scale for the Cannabis cause. I admit, cannabis legalization has a tendency to always allowing the notion of "just want to get high" taint our cause. Well, hell yes, we want to get high! But that's not all we want. Of course, one can always refer to the classic Jack Herer web based book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes", but is that enough? If it were, then Cannabis would have been legal long ago. And unfortunately, I have little desire or direction with which to actually develop my own web site to help with this cause. Yet I do feel deeply that Cannabis can be easily woven into so many different causes, that the combination of the groups pushing for legalization would become an undefeatable force. And so, I do offer up a suggestion for anyone who is web-savvy enough to undertake, if they think it's a good idea. I know I won't take advantage of it, so perhaps someone else will. I'm sure that everyone (assuming is such a dangerous word, isn't it?) has heard that there were about 15,000 (or was it 25,000?) uses for Cannabis in 1937. But, exactly what were those uses? And is there anyone out there who has any ideas of what those uses were? The idea came from the wikipedia (I think that's it). Where you can edit the information and offer opposing viewpoints on any particular subject. Perhaps people could help to contribute not only the items that cannabis was used in, but the how to information on how to produce those items. I'm just throwing it out for the 200,000 or so viewers this site has each day. Surely one of you could do something useful with it. If not, then it probably isn't worth doing. lol I hope that perhaps someone can do something with it anyway. And for those of you who haven't seen Jack Herer's book, here is his web site which offers readers quite a hefty sampling of it's contents. http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html Hope this wasn't out of line, I just know that I won't carry through with the idea, and hope that it might help someone along the way. All my mail this year from the MPP just had their logo and that is it on the outside of the envelope. I seem to recall mail one time from them that displayed something similar on the envelope sent to me nearly a full year ago. I have also received one or two mails from NORML that were suggestive to what was inside in my time with them. That is weird that the MPP would add you if you didn't sign up. I have regular mail from organizations that our pro assisted suicide in the case of the terminally ill. I'm fairly sure that one of the drug policy organizations is handing out mailing addresses to like minded organizations, and I have my eye on Drug Policy Alliance and the Libertarian Party. Even still, that you described is suggestive but hardly definitive as to what is in the mail. [ Post Comment ] |

It was a swat team with guns and masks on a nice country porch on the right side of the envelope. That's what bothered me. People who sort the mail will see that picture and since we don't treat people that way around here it would make those who see it while processing it and delivering it wonder what it was about. That's very interesting. My sister is 71 years old and she is an activist in her town and works all the time on trying to stop a dump from being put in near their town because of possible water contamination. She has always been a republican and we just stay out of issues concerning politics when we talk but today we talked alot about what is happening to our country because of the republicans. It surprised me that she would admit who is causing our problems but she did. She is a retired police woman a deputy sheriff and she has a few of her adult children living with her. Her one son is disabled because he has Muscular Dystrophy and she has been able to file as head of household but they just changed the law and she will lose more money. We talked about the earth and if we don't start paying attention to it we'll all be effected because the earth will live on even if disease kills us all. It's a very sobering thought but it's true. Just thought I would share this bit of news. I have the link below this comment. Wal-Mart is now investing in getting all of it's stores to run with 100% renewable energy. That's huge! I mention this because I believe that Cannabis is an important step in helping to restore the balance of our fragile environment. In fact, I am convinced that it is the most viable option for us to restore our delicate balance with nature. I get e-mail news from them but regular mail isn't something I wanted to ever get. NORML hasn't sent me anything and I get their e-mail news. We have to see our family attorney soon and we can ask him how to make sure this doesn't happen anymore. Everyone knows everyones business out my way and it just makes life a little more tense. If you have been added to MPP's email list without your consent you should email them and state your complaint. I hope they aren't trying to push themselves on anyone. Mayor John Hickenlooper hasn't actively campaigned against the measure, but he's said that he opposes legalizing marijuana because it's a "gateway drug" that can lead to destructive addictions. The "gateway theory" in regards to cannabis has been disproven time and again but the mayor does mention "destructive addictions". Destructive addictions such as ALCOHOLISM??? THE MAYOR OWNS A BREWPUB!!! Like I said before, these folks can't open their mouths anymore without making themselves look extremely stupid. The mayor's spokeswoman, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent, said today: "If this handful of folks is genuinely concerned about the dangers of alcohol, they should spend their time trying to bring back Prohibition. It's very interesting that she brings up ALCOHOL PROHIBITION. Banning a very popular drug always works so well! Actually, why would we want to bring back such a failed policy? Why do we want to continue the increasingly failed policy of cannabis prohibition? Thanks for prolonging the comparison between alcohol and cannabis, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent. The prohibitionist have indeed made sure that everyone in Denver has heard of I-100 by now! "The mayor's spokeswoman, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent, said today: "If this handful of folks is genuinely concerned about the dangers of alcohol, they should spend their time trying to bring back Prohibition." Oh, that's rich. Because obviously, reinstating alcohol prohibition is the best way to solve the problems with alcohol that the drug prohibition has not solved with drugs. LOL! Tell us another one, Lindy. Clue: It's about freedom of choice, not about how people use that choice in the end. [ Post Comment ] |

Cannabinoids kill cancer, cannabinoids protect brain cells from alcohol, cannabinoids build new brain cells, the birds that can find the worm tomorrow will always beat the birds that know where the worm was yesterday. A society founded on remembering where the worm was yesterday isn't prepeared to meet tomorrow. Okay, we're oppressed. But still, I feel sorry for the ones oppressing us, because they have to face life without cannabinoids. Their cancer cells aren't being inhibited, their brain cells aren't being protected or restored, and they're going to get pretty hungry when their worms stop showing up in their same old holes.
