cannabis Actor Benjamin Curtis, who plays the wise-cracking "Steven" in Dell Computer Corp's "Dude, yer gettin' a Dell" commercials, was arrested for marijuana possession, officials said on Monday.

Curtis, 22, was charged with criminal and unlawful possession of marijuana, two misdemeanor charges that carry possible jail sentences of up to three months.

However, at his arraignment on Monday afternoon, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin adjourned the case for one year and said the charges could be dismissed if Curtis, who lives in New York City, gets in no trouble for the next 12 months.

Police had spotted Curtis on a street corner in Manhattan's Lower East Side holding a plastic bag filled with marijuana late on Sunday evening, according to court papers filed in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The arresting officer said he saw another man, identified as 19-year-old Omar Mendez, give the bag of marijuana to Curtis for an undisclosed sum of money, according to the complaint.

It did not say how much marijuana was in the bag.

Neither Morris, who appeared disheveled after his night in jail, nor his attorney would comment on the case after his release.

Dell, the No. 2 personal computer company which makes most of its money selling to businesses and schools, began television and print commercials featuring "Steven" three years ago, but lately had moved to a less "dude-centric" advertising campaign.

Venancio Figueroa, a spokesman for the Round Rock, Texas-based Dell said: "We really are not commenting as to Benjamin's future plans for the 'Steven' character."

"Steven" became a cult advertising figure not seen since the likes of Joe Isuzu and Clara Peller of Wendy's "Where's the beef?" fame. Inundated by calls from adoring fans, Dell even set up a Web site: -- http://www.dell4me.com/dude -- and offered a line of "Dell Dude" apparel.

Dell Dude
I just called Dell and told the Customer Service "dude" that if they sever their relationship with the "Dell Dude" I will buy a Gateway computer. The fellow I talked to stated that he knew of the situation, and even seemed to lean in my direction.

1 800-WWW DELL ext 66966

You can do it, too.

Adjourned 1 year?
"However, at his arraignment on Monday afternoon, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin adjourned the case for one year and said the charges could be dismissed if Curtis, who lives in New York City, gets in no trouble for the next 12 months."

It's odd that they adjouned the case for a year. I bet the judge told Curtis to keep his mouth shut or else the charges will stand. This guy could help the movement in a big way if they didn't put a gag on him. "Dude, yer gettin' a cell!" Hee-Hee!!!

Dude! yer getting a Cell!
Wouldn't that be a great commercial way to show America that one gets jailed for growing or using a wonderful plant called cannabis. Maybe they could also deliver a health message on essential fat contained in hempseed oil while they are at it.

Marijuana Prohibition = Dude, yer getting a Cell! Commercial at 11.

Dell my butt
"We really are not commenting as to Benjamin's future plans for the 'Steven' character."

Sure they aren't. Try going to the Dell dude address in the above article, NOT. This would be a great time for "Steven" to cash in on his personna. A commercial for us that goes something like "It's obvious from my latest experience with the law, it's get out and change the system or "Dude, you got a cell!"

"I urge all my fans and those who aren't to write their congressman and vote out any politician who supports further marijuana prohibition!"

Yeah I know I'm dreaming but wouldn't it be cool! And I agree he never had a surfer profile, he's a stoner.
