Marijuana Crusader Charged Again |
Posted by CN Staff on May 25, 2002 at 12:55:43 PT News Story Source: CBC Marijuana crusader Grant Krieger has been charged by Calgary police with possession for the purpose of trafficking. A jury acquitted Krieger of a similar charge last summer, even though he admitted to growing and selling marijuana. Krieger, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, said he was doing it on compassionate grounds to help people who need the drug for medicinal purposes. Krieger was charged again Thursday after police allegedly found 550 grams of marijuana in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop. Calgary police staff sergeant Roger Chaffin says Krieger was also found with drug paraphernalia. "With Mr. Krieger as with anyone, we'll look at the evidence before us based on its own facts," says Chaffin, "and in this case we certainly believe that this marijuana here was for the purpose of trafficking and he's certainly been charged for possession with purpose of trafficking." Krieger himself was not available for comment. Grant Cluff, a friend of Krieger's and a member of the Grant Krieger Research Foundation which distributes marijuana on compassionate grounds, says police are unfairly targetting Krieger. "It goes beyond bordering on harrassment," says Cluff. "I'll say it is harrassment. I don't know why they're putting pressure on him in particular. He's one of the few men going around helping people. There is nothing that he's doing wrong." Cluff says the foundation has more than 100 members who depend on the foundation for medicinal marijuana.
