medical San Diego narcotics officers raided a medical marijuana garden in City Heights yesterday, confiscating a half-dozen mature plants and two dozen seedlings, a medical marijuana patient said.

Dianne Vesprini said she had been growing marijuana at her home for herself and three other patients, with the full knowledge of San Diego police. Narcotics officers could not be reached for comment.

Vesprini said that last week she reported being assaulted at her home by a boy staying at the home, which is owned by one of her patients. When police responded to the assault call, they discovered the plants, checked her paperwork and allowed her to keep them.

But detectives returned to the house yesterday and seized all of the plants, said Vesprini, 48, who said she was not arrested.

"They ripped them up, they took them out of the ground, they took them all," said Vesprini, who said marijuana eases chronic pain she suffers from arthritis and other ailments.

Vesprini said detectives also took from the home all of her paperwork that supports her claim to use medical marijuana and her ability to legally grow the herb for other patients under Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.

Confiscation of the plants comes as the city of San Diego prepares to issue identification cards to up to 1,500 medical marijuana patients.

Vesprini said she would be among the patients applying for the badges when they become available later this year.

running amok...
These cops remind me of stories about pillaging hoards of Vandals(A European Tribe, particularly adept at destruction, during Roman times.)

No reason to do this except to inflict harm.

I hope she wins a few Billion in court. She should.

Dare we say the words "rogue police"?
They don't want to give up the one last excuse they have to abuse and intimidate people under protection of the law.
