justice In the most massive redeployment of manpower in its history, the Police Department this week plans to begin stationing uniformed cops on hundreds of street corners known to be centers of drug activity. The plan, called "Operation Safe Streets," targets up to 500 street corners, which are rated according to their level of drug traffic.

To cover 500 corners around the clock would require about 2,000 cops, something inside sources said borders on the impossible for a department with fewer than 7,000 officers.

Been here, done this
Yet another operation to rid my city's streets of drugs. They have been doing this for years. Does not help. Big waste of money. What makes mayor Street think this time it will be any different then the last 20 operations? Stupid and futile. Glad I don't have to pay city wage tax.

Squeeze that balloon!
This might work if there were only 500 street corners in Philly!

I've never understood the open air drug market anyway. They really do exist, not just guys smoking pot but selling any nasty thing you might want. I pass them on the way home everyday.

What I don't understand is, who are the customers? I've never in my life bought anything off the street. That seems to me the lowest common denominator, faceless dealers who have no incentive not to adulterate the product or simply rip you off. Black market or no, most of the people I've dealt with over the years have been honest and concerned about their product.

Of course, the real answer is to excise the black market by growing your own. It's a step you'll never regret (unless you can't keep your yap shut and get yourself busted) and you will never be able to smoke that commercial crap again.

Silly philly...
Now who's watching the banks? Historic places? I give it a week. Gotta wonder who's up for election?

Philadelphia to Terrorists:
Most of our police resources will be standing on street corners looking for marijuana smokers. Now would be a good time to launch your plan to blow up the Liberty Bell. Knowing that the Bell is already cracked, the terrorists believe that a charge placed inside and detonated would kill millions from the effects of shattered Liberty.)

Actually, it would be just as well. We're not much in the liberty business anymore.
