Ventura Sends Video Backing to Marijuana Advocates

NORML Gov. Jesse Ventura today championed the cause of medical marijuana use, soon after he sent a video address to the conference of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

"I'm sending you this greeting to show my support for the good work you're doing, especially in the field of medical marijuana," he said in the video message to NORML delegates in San Francisco, according to a transcript of the video.

Adds Ventura: "What are we waiting for? How much should people suffer because others won't use common sense?"

Ventura has long been an advocate of legalizing marijuana for medical use, and two state departments sponsored a forum on the topic a year ago.

Today, Ventura addressed the issue on his weekly radio show: "Marijuana should be allowed to be prescribed by a doctor for medical purposes. (Doctors) can prescribe you morphine derivatives. ... I don't understand why a doctor shouldn't prescribe you cannabis ... if you're like a cancer patient ... getting chemotherapy (to comfort the patient)."

The governor also bristled at government's role in the issue, saying, "I'll be damned if I'm lying with a fatal disese if I'm going to let the government tell me what I can or can't use."

The NORML conference declares on its Web site: "There is nothing wrong with the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and it should be of no interest or concern to the government.

"Said another way, the responsible use of marijuana is NORML. That premise underlies the 2002 NORML Conference."

Ventura also told the delegates that he had eaten up an entire order of hemp-fed beef sent to him by actor and marijuana advocate Woody Harrelson, another speaker at the convention.

"Tell Woody I could use another order," Ventura said.

MI. Rep. David Bonior is running for Gov.
He is one of the Reps. that have signed on to Barney Franks Med Cannabis bill that says States that have passed med Bills will out rank the Feds. Does anyone know who else has signed on to this bill. Oh ya rep Bonior chosen a most wonderfull Lady Sen. here in MI. to run with him. Her name is Alma Wheller Smith. From south of Ann Arbor. Bonior has gotten the nod from the UAW. People in MI. could find where Bonior is speaking and see him. The Greens have said if Bonior wins the primary they will not feild a canadate because he is most like what they represent.

Jesse in '08'?
Jesse is running for re-election up in Minnesota so I wouldn't expect a run for Prez in 2004, but who knows? There is no doubt in my mind he would win though - even if they didn't let him in the debates. He would make the Republicrat candidates look even dumber than they are! It is my belief that he is biding his time while he revives the Minnesota Independence Party.

..can you imagine,,,,
,,the slimy ads that the anti-Ventura for president people would put out???.. .They would show him in some WWF wrestling clips from the past,,and say something like,,"Now,,he wants to be president".,,,,
...If Jesse Ventura ran for president,,I'll bet he would WIN!, ,,but then,,another JFK thing would happen,,and congress would investigate,,and the assinator would be found to be an Iraqi terrorist from Palestine,,,and then the war on terror would move to Venezula, and Colombia,,and it would be like another Afghanistan,,with most of the casualties being ascribed to malfunctioning helicopters,,and accidental bombings of allies, and teenage marines.!....You can bet that Canadian soldiers will be running for cover now when they hear an F-16 approaching!....oops!,,,,we accidently bombed the wrong guys.?... ..I will assume you know,,that I am referring to the recent bombing of Canadian troops in Afghanistan....You know,,,the "War on Terror".,,, and, it would seem,, that if we are to believe what we hear from the "war",,then more casualties have occured due to plane crashes,,and accidendal bomb fuck-ups,,than have occured due to enemy fire.......Oh well,, guess I sorta got off track there... ..sorry...

....p4me...
...I dont think you should hold back,,and "do my best not to comment anymore today....",.....I know what you mean though. .As you may know,,I have a tendency to go far beyond normal and serious in my offbeat ramblings,,,and I have many times felt like I was overdoing it with excessive comments,,,.. Dont be shy!,,, I'll let ya know if you say too much,,,so will Kap and Lehder.......I liked hearing you say..;"I guess the Cnews choir all feels weathered by the cannabis laws and political climate ....",,,,,yup,,,I think most of us are weathered,,and quite well seasoned!....I think you are right on about the two-party dominance in the US.It is out of control..I was impressed to hear that Ralph Nader had accepted an apology, for being excluded from the presidential debates...I think the "apology",should have been to all Americans!.
..I will say once again ,,that I appreciate, and enjoy your insights...........and.... I must agree about EJ,Kap,and Lehder,,and the numerous other outstanding commentators here...This is where the real people discuss the issues,,and even fake people are welcome here as long as they are polite,,and dont abuse profanity......
.Keep on keepin' on.
..
....Sincerely..............dddd

The kindred spirits
I was going to do my best not to comment anymore today but then I read EJ's comment 3 and I feel a kindred spirit. I am glad I started to use the "Recent comment" button because now I have a better chance of not letting certain people's comments pass. One would be EJ and in no particular order Kapiteno and Lehder. You were all here when I ran across Cannabisnews about a year ago and are capable of helping calibrate their Drug$hit detectors. Most people thought they could get by with those old bull$hit detectors and they are quite inadequate for todays propaganda.

Anyway EJ has put up another thing that says what I think and it makes me happy to know that there are more like her here at Cnews. It is a place of kindred spirits.

I was noticing something over at Salon.com about the Progressive Party. The ad talked about a party that was in opposition to the vile right wing of the Republic Party. Which that is right up my alley. I never heard of it before but am happy to hear about its existance. And then there are the Libertarians. So I thought about what would a Progressive Party member think about a Libertarian because I could see joining a Progressive Party while I am not interested in becoming a Libertarian although I could not be happier for their existance and believe for the most part if not all of what they stand for. They are concerned citizens trying to make the country better and we need both Parties. The two party system has got to go. This country should have at least four.

In the war on marijuana that has so wounded the country and slowed medical research into all the cannabanoids that will be tomorrow's medicine and in todays politics there is one subject that is always relevant. That subject is the power and wishes and corruptions of what is generally termed "the upper 1%."

Now let us start with Julius Augustus known by the name of Caesar. There used to be one man that said what was what throughout an Empire. There were only ten months until Caesar came along and September was the seventh month and October the 8th and November the 9th and December the 10th. Then Caesar said I will name to months for me in the middle of summer when everyone is happy and warm. And people of power can become addicted to that power and want more and those that thought of themselves had titles like Csar- Russian for Caesar and Kaiser- German for Caesar.

I don't think Emperor as in Napoleon was French for Caesar but Napoleon had an absolute power over vast peoples and lands. And even though Napoleon was no Christain much less Catholic he recognized its power and importance in accomplishing his ambitions. It is my view that the upper 1% uses the Church in furthering their own means. I believe that the thrust of the objectives was to get tax relief and repeal the estate tax just like they did. Those were approved last year and would expire 10 years from their becoming law last year. So yesterday the main objective of the upper 1% through the use of the Republican Party were spearheading a drive to get the tax cuts and the repeal of the estate tax permanent. It passed the Republican controlled house and Daschle says the Senate won't even bother to bring it up. Why are they debating so fiercely in the House to get something made permanent that we have nine years to think about and revise? The upper 1% wants those tax cuts. Damned those Republicans. They are crazy. I am seriously thinking about putting up a sign in my yard saying "No Repuplicans Allowed." No kidding.

I guess the Cnews choir all feels weathered by the cannabis laws and political climate and for myself I feel like the prohibitionist want to talk about marijuana and I want to talk about freedom. I am glad to talk about our beloved plant to all that I can. So, it does not bother me to talk to prohibitionist about marijuana. What bothers me is they don't want to talk to me about freedom. We have talked enough about marijuana. Tomorrow on 4/20 let us hope that some piece of the conglomerate media says something about freedom from the insane laws. We already know about marijuana, thank you very much.

See what EJ does? You know how you remember things and you build associations. In the Wars with France, Enland had certain disadvantages at times. The Spanish had a saying about building their empire with steel and at the time of French dominance the bragged of military might create by French Steel. Then there came a British reply and a rise to an Empire that had continuos sun. The French would say we have superior steel and the British would have say we have Iassic Newton. One time EJ wrote something that made me think that at least we have EJ and that is a pretty good start.

I have to get back to my medicine. If you are independent, a libertarian, a progressive, a democrat, a green, or any other have a happy 4/20. If you are a republican get a clue or screw yourself. Just don't come in my yard.

VAAI

Hemp-fed beef?
I'd like more info on the hemp-fed beef thing, myself... What are the advantages to such a thing, and where can I try some? And, since the hemp is ingested by something we then ingest, is the DEA going to say this is illegal too?

Jesse Ventura is desperately needed in politics
As a lifelong Democratic feminist I'm about the last one who would be suspected of saying this, but I see how this man is needed in politics.

Political/Christian correctness really has eaten the brains out of both parties in this country.

That's why we have the top politicians in both parties engaged in a bipartisan conspiracy against the voters.

Reno and Ashcroft went hand-in-hand on medical marijuana. She started what he is now trying to finish.

Wow, another honest politician
That makes about three if you count Barney Frank and Gary Johnson. Not bad for a country with hundreds of congressmen and fifty governors.

But seriously it's good to hear Jesse speak up on the issue. I'd be proud if my governor did the same, but it ain't likely.

Never been more proud to be Minnesotan!
I knew he'd play the MMJ card at some point. He has been reluctant to say if he'd run for governor again. This tells me he's gonna run for something somehow.
