| Medical Marijuana Patient Plans Visit to Campus |

Federal medicinal marijuana patient George McMahon will speak Monday at NT to tell his story and discuss the benefits of medicinal marijuana.“I’m a patient,” McMahon said. “And the best thing I can do is tell you my experience and give you the information I’ve learned.” The discussion, titled “Conversations with George,” will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Environmental Education, Science and Technology 110. McMahon spokesman and friend, Christopher Large, said he expects a large turnout but wants to remind everyone it is a non-smoking event. McMahon said he prefers not to call the event a lecture because he has not planned a definite structure or speech. Instead, he prefers for people to ask questions and share information. An open microphone will be set up at the discussion and McMahon encourages people to bring index cards and pencils to write down questions to give to him during the discussion. McMahon has been traveling the country over the last three years meeting with government officials, medical organizations and small groups of people to tell his story and promote his new book, The Green Path: A Journey to Uncle Sam’s Marijuana Garden, co-authored by Large. He said he does not consider himself a professional or a lobbyist, just a man wanting to tell his story. McMahon is one of only six people who receive medicinal marijuana from the federal government. He has a rare genetic disorder, Neil Patella syndrome, which results in several symptoms — including nausea and muscle spasms — that are relieved by marijuana.
