Drug Legalization Bad for State Says Sandel

justice Lieutenant governor candidate Jerry Sandel made a stop in Roswell last week on his campaign swing through the 2nd Congressional District. While in town, Sandel, D-San Juan County, denounced Gov. Gary Johnson’s attempt to legalize marijuana.

“I don’t think he has represented the state well throughout the U.S. because of his drug legislation issues,” said Sandel. According to Sandel, Johnson’s recent pro-legalization stance has been detrimental to the state.

“It’s hard to encourage people to move to the state when he (Johnson) is out promoting the bad,” said the former legislator.

Sandel, a 1st District representative for 30 years, said he would consider the legalization attempt a dead issue if elected.

The candidate said he is looking forward to representing the southern part of the state and moving the state forward instead of backward.

The self-proclaimed, “chief case worker for the state,” said his experience as a state representative will be beneficial in dealing with the new governor and each political party in ridding New Mexico’s government of gridlock.

“I can work with both the Democrats and Republicans to start working compromises,” he said.

Aside from putting the marijuana issue to rest, Sandel stated health care issues have become a problem in rural areas.

Sandel said affordable health care is needed in places like Roswell so people don’t have to travel to larger cities to find care.

“We need to get the costs down so they can afford to be here, we are seeing insurance shrink,” he said.

Sandel plans to help rural areas of the state with better education systems and more jobs by expanding the revenue base and improving infrastructure.

“Through distance learning, where we can link up with two-year schools through universities, we will then be able to train right here. If a company wants to come into Roswell the people will be right here,” he said.

Owning and operating his own company, Aztec Well Servicing, since 1963, the father of three and grandfather of one has lived in New Mexico since moving to the state at age 12.

A graduate of Farmington High school, he holds an honorary degree from San Juan College.

Sandel has been campaigning all over the state for the June 4 election since announcing his candidacy last November.

Gary Johnson will Prefail!!!!
as most New Mexicans agree with him, and the various cultures' use of cannabis is widely known, and intermittently persecuted for possessing. Since Johnson got the ball rolling bigtime, there will be no going back, and putting your finger in the dyke won't stem the tide of cannabis acceptance. I hope Johnson has attracted Cannabis users to the state, what a great Tourist Attraction 'Cannabis Legalization' would provide to the ailing economy! I guess the IMF would be unhappy about that! Poverty is the World Banks' best friend, isn't it? New Mexico is the new role model for the future of America: poverty in general, with gated communities for the rich and only source of income producing 'Touristas', the American dream will be duplicated in a state near you!

All is not lost
The one redeeming factor in this mess is that the judges in Canada appear to have more discretion as well as the cajones to stand up for what is right.

If they are extradited back to Amerika, God help them.

I think the words of Jesus apply, when He said "Father, forgive them: they know not what they do."

Land of the drive-up window
“It’s hard to encourage people to move to the state when he (Johnson) is out promoting the bad,” said the former legislator.

People find New Mexico's 6.8% state income tax rate pretty unattractive too. This is another of New Mexico's backward policies that Johnson opposes but has had little legislative support in changing.

Or maybe it's the cockroaches. If you rent an apartment or buy a house in Albuquerque, you're going to have cockroaches in there, crawling over your silverware at night and laying their eggs in your bathroom. Albuquerque has millions of dollars to chase pot smokers, but cannot afford insecticide for cleaning out its infested sewer system.

The legal cockfights have also, evidently, failed to attract new residents, even though it's legal there to carry a concealed weapon for protecting your wagers.

The new program, passed by New Mexico's legislature last year, of serving alcohol in the public museums seems not to have attracted many new residents. In fact it's killing a few residents off: New Mexico has country's highest rates of drunk driving and alcoholism and is the world capital of road rage. Maybe the liquor industry has something to do with keeping marijuana illegal in NM??

The war on drugs is definitely a good reason to stay out of New Mexico too. The streets of Albuquerque are terrorized by two hundred and seventy street gangs, imported by and organized by Los Angeles members, who love smashing, stealing and "keying" cars. Your chances of being burglarized by these gangs in Albuquerque are 25% every three years. The gangs derive much of their income by selling drugs. But don't blame marijuana, blame the war on marijuana. Up until the eighties, when the drug war kicked into high gear, New Mexico was a lot more peaceful. Marijuana then, as now, has always been a part of the culture. For hundreds of years there was no problem with it - until the drug war arrived.

Albuquerque ties with Newark, New Jersey as one of the most violent and crime ridden cities in the US. It's also a cultural wasteland. It's run by the liquor industry, and if you're an alcoholic or drug dealer there's always something to do in Albuquerque. The bars are always open for the urine-tested military of several bases.

New Mexico is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It's too bad that only Gary Johnson can see its potential.

Steve said that he takes Morphine for his back injuries. I'm worried they will keep that from him more then Cannabis. He won't go through withdrawal from Cannabis we know that but Morphine could be horrible. Are they bad like that or only here in the states?

More Information!
Steve Kubby and Steve Tuck in Custody

By Dana Larsen (16 Apr, 2002)

US med-pot refugees picked up by Canadian immigration agents.

Pot TV News anchor Steve Kubby: in custody!

American med-pot refugees Steve Kubby and Steve Tuck are currently being held by Canadian immigration officials after the pair were picked up earlier today.

Kubby, the 54 year old founder of the American Medical Marijuana Association, suffers from adrenal cancer which he keeps in remission thorugh the use of cannabis. Kubby has recently been subject to media attention, with articles in the local Coast Reporter newspaper, the Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers, CBC TV and a recent interview with Fox National News.

Tuck, a Vietnam vet who suffers from severe spinal injuries and uses cannabis to control pain and muscle spasms, has also recently been featured in the media.

Those who observed Tuck's arrest noted the presence of a plainclothes officer who did not speak or identify himself, leading to speculation that this was a DEA agent or other US representative leading the RCMP action.

It is not known at this time whether Kubby or Tuck will be deported to the US, or what legal challenges are being filed. More details will be posted as they come in.

Sorry this is all I could find-hopefully Kubby and Tuck will survive long enough to raise hell.

The US Government Sucks FoM
This can only be the government attempting to send the message that cannabis users cannot hide from the long arm of the DEAth mongers even if you leave the country. This isn't only a sad day it is utterly inhumane and criminal that they can do this.

Oh, Canada!
Dark Star does not like to impose his will on independent governments, but Canada needs to decide whether it has the cojones to stand up to the Amerikan imperialist dogs of war.

If only some country will.

Governor Johnson/Baghdad-by-the-Bay
How does this politician figure Governor Johnson is not representing the people when he espouses a position shared by 70-80% of the population?

Just a reminder, if you're going to San Francisco, I'd love to have the chance to meet you at NORML.
