NORML Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be featured in an advertising campaign by the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, the group said Monday.

The $500,000 campaign will feature bus shelter signs and telephone booth posters carrying a quote from Bloomberg, when asked if he had ever smoked marijuana, declaring: ``You bet I did. And I enjoyed it."

Bloomberg made the remark to a New York magazine reporter last year before he was elected mayor.

The Washington-based group is using Bloomberg as the centerpiece of its campaign to urge the city to stop arresting and jailing people for smoking marijuana.

Bloomberg said Monday that the city would continue making such arrests, no matter what he may have said in the past.

``I'm not thrilled they're using my name,'' he said. ``I suppose there's that First Amendment that gets in the way of me stopping it.''

The mayor didn't say when he smoked marijuana.

The campaign also will feature radio spots and a full-page ad in The New York Times, but the group did not say if the Bloomberg quote would appear in those.

NY City Blues
don't that beat all? He says it, then wants to keep busting-sounds like a lotta federal funds at stake-don't ya know? They told him his wallet only gets as fat as his jails-If people stopped buying prescriptions, the drug companies would bitch at Bush, Bush doesn't get as much campaign money (and what with this campaign thingy going on, campaign funds are everything, right?) The guy that fills the most jails gets the most votes-and who gets popped? Democtrats all! I'm not sarcastic, really I'm not mom? OK

And why would this be?
Bloomberg said Monday that the city would continue making such arrests, no matter what he may have said in the past.

Because there is one law for the rich and one for the poor?

Just guessing here, but sounds plausible.

Hizzoner...
...should present himself to the local gendarmes for immediate arrest. I won't hold my breath. Some pigs are more equal than others.

Bloomberg -- FYI
In the NY local news Bloomberg said, "Unfortunately the 1st amendment allows for the freedom of speech." This is only part of the proof of how the drug war threatens our freedoms.

No New York vacation plans here....... I STAY AWAY
well he will make himself out as a "blooming idiot" if he continues arresting his subjects. Maybe he should consider the "Ann Arbor Ordinance"

Freeland Soon?
Only when we sweep away the current crop of politicians, judges and law enforcement henchmen. At least a generation is needed.

grrr
Bloomberg said Monday that the city would continue making such arrests, no matter what he may have said in the past.

Then guess what, Mikey: You belong in jail. I go to jail if they find a seed... meanwhile the mayor runs free. Get a spine and stand up for your beliefs Bloomberg!!

I hope the ad campaign really takes off though. Day after day we get more news showing the wall is crumbling. Everyone hang in there and we'll be living in a freeland soon.
