Bush Begins Latin Swing in Mexico

justice A day after a deadly car bombing, President Bush said Thursday that "two-bit terrorists" would not stop him from visiting Peru or thwart his goal of building better ties throughout Latin America.

"Sometimes it seems like the terror threat might be going away, but all you got to do is look on your TV today and be reminded about how evil these murderers are," Bush said. The president got a sendoff for a four-day trip to Mexico, Peru and El Salvador with a raucous airport rally in the Texas border town of El Paso.

"We cannot let the terrorists take over freedom-loving societies and we will not," Bush said, decrying a suicide bombing in the Middle East, a grenade attack on a church service in Pakistan and a car bombing near the U.S. Embassy in Lima, Peru.

Bush's first stop was in Monterrey for a U.N. summit on global poverty. The president was to meet on the sidelines of the meeting with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

The subject of terrorism loomed large over Bush's day. Before boarding Air Force One for El Paso, Bush met with Milton Green, whose wife and step-daughter were killed in the Pakistan attack. And while en route, he called Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to discuss an attack by an offshoot of the Red Brigades terror group, in which an Italian economist was killed.

The president told reporters in Washington that Wednesday's attack in Lima, which killed nine people, would not make him change his travel plans. He is to visit Peru on Saturday, the first U.S. president to do so. He said he trusts that President Alejandro Toledo will make his country safe for his American visitor.

"Two-bit terrorists aren't going to prevent me from doing what we need to do, and that is to promote our friendship in the hemisphere," Bush said. "Our neighborhood is important to us, Peru is an important country. President Toledo has been a reformist, obviously worked within the democratic system. And you bet I'm going."

Bush said "we might have an idea" who set off the bomb. "They've been around before," he said. While Bush did not identify the suspected group, he nodded when a reporter asked whether the terrorist group Shining Path was making a resurgence.

Other U.S. officials said Shining Path was suspected.

Bush told the El Paso crowd that the recent attacks underscore a need for greater security within the United States. He said he was asking Congress for an extra $5 billion for bolstering security at U.S. airports and borders. The funds were part of his request for $27 billion in emergency spending submitted Thursday.

"This is a dangerous world," Bush said. "Too many people are losing their lives to murderers."

Bush visited a border crossing point at Cordova Bridge to see U.S. inspection operations along the 1,951-mile border. Wearing a U.S. Customs cap, he poked around cargo trucks and examined a motorcoach recently seized by agents after high-tech density meters and X-rays detected secret compartments containing drugs.

The bus, seized two weeks ago, had 1,500 pounds of cocaine and 2,500 pounds of marijuana stashed in a false compartment. Bush heartily shook the hand of the Customs agent whose contraband-sniffing dog first smelled something amiss.

Bush announced that his administration had reached a 22-point border agreement with Mexico much like the one Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge signed with Canada in December.

Listing goals, planned technology studies and information-sharing commitments, the U.S.-Mexico agreement to be signed in Monterrey on Friday is designed to tighten border security after the Sept. 11 terror attacks while also preventing traffic jams and trade problems.

The agreement calls for a joint survey of infrastructure to identify potential bottlenecks and weaknesses that put security at risk, to develop high-tech systems to speed the flow of travelers, to create a joint U.S.-Mexico "advanced passenger information exchange system" to weed out smugglers and to develop faster means of exchanging customs data.

Expletives
are not deleted.

What I think is worse is when I see the word God as G_d. That is profane; that is taking the name of the Lord Thy God in vain.

I say fuck it and write God.

Thank FoM for the most killer site on the net.

that was killer goneposthole..
,,,,,and I know what you mean about the 'not funny',thing...I have gone through times, where I thought that perhaps I was overdoing it in the clown department,,,,but I reached the conclusion,,that the brutal and ugly war on drugs is OK to poke fun at,,and try to laugh about....it's better than the somber opposite,,where we all point out the fine points of how fucked things are....?..........
..by the way,,,I wanted to mention that I hope my use of words that might be considered "profane",,are not seen as offensive,or abusive;...I respect FoM,and the request to "Please refrain from using profanity....",,,,but I think that proper use of the words "fuck",,or "shit",,is part of normal western english language...I guess maybe there might be someone out there,,,some priggish ,old grumpy fussbudget,,who has not reached the point where use of the word "fuck"is acceptable.....fuck is part of the American language!...It is a dynamic word, with many meanings,It has a certain impact...there are certain situations when no other word will do....yes..Fuck...it is a very special word I'm afraid I cant get by without it.....I hope that all this doesnt cause some neanderthal to make some pointless "fuck" post....you know,,,,It's sortof amazing,,,I just realized the strangenes in the concept of the word "fuck" being abused!?.....I'm glad I was able to explain all this,,because I was feelin' sorta guilty,,and I decided that the practice of writing 'f*#k',,was really stupid...it all of a sudden struck me that ,,even though the intention of writing f*%k is admirable,,,the actual truth is that it's stupid!,,,as if some prim old proper person were reading a rambling comment,,and then the word fuck is used,,but thanks to the polite commentater,,it was written;'f*#k',,,and the old retentive reader continues to read,,,luckily it wasnt written in the crude, uncensored, impolite way....................the long and the short of it is,,that I think fuck is a normal American word,,,and unless someone finds it offensive,,I will use it,,no more of the silly astericks!...f*ck...cr*p..... sh*thead............???p*nis,,,,,c*nt...perhaps astericks still have their place...I'm glad I got this 'fuck' thing out of the way......keep on keepin' on.........dddd

Al-Peru terrorists
If I were George Bush, Jr. I would be a little worried about making a trip to Peru. Little Big Man said to Custer, "Sir, You go down there," after Custer asked him what he should do just before he rode to glory into Little Big Horn.

Doesn't make any difference anyway, since George Bush II really didn't get elected.

Al-Aska terrorists could possibly take over the ANWR. And those C-Al-Ifornia terrorists will aid them. The US gov't is threatened constantly. Look out, look out

Back and forth, pitching and yawing, flotsam and jetsam, never ending threats. Cold War threats, terrorist threats, the English monarchy was under constant threat from the crazy Patriots. Oh My God, run for your lives. Henny Penny, Chicken Little... Well known terrorists: Archie, Jughead, Dagwood, Mr. Dithers, Dennis the Menace (the most sinister and dangerous of them all).

This stuff is getting comical. But it isn't funny.

Qrackpot theory...
...ya know,,,it seems to me that oil is not that much of a factor anymore....oil is easily sucked from anywhere,,and no country is safe,,because terrorists hide in oil,,,,,,the next thing that will happen,,,is that Al-Quida terrorists will attack and occupy the ANWR oil fields in Alaska,,.......Oil...who cares. The US anti-terror machine can create a conflict anytime,,,,anywhere they choose....any type of conflict can also be created by the release of a "news report".........Some old hardworkin' plumber ,who lives in North Seattle reads the article on page 2,of The Seattle Times;;;;;;"Feds Shut Down All Internet Drug Sites After Teenager Explodes And Harms Baby In Internet Meth Lab Accident."...
..or..."Drug Website Blamed For Youths Death,,,FBI Shuts Down Thousands Of Terror Related Drug Websites". ... It will happen eventually,,,and almost no one will flinch,,or think it's abnormal.........The news will portray it with Peter Jennings ;"Terrorist who use the internet to fund their activities were dealt a blow from homeland security and DEA officials today as thousands of drug websites were shut down. The drug websites are believed to provide funding for terrorist networks"...

..I dont know about you,,,
..but I am sick of hearing this fake cowboy talkin' like he's some kinda superpower high plains drifter Texas gunslinger...if ya piss him off,,he'll send a bunch of army kids on into your country to hunt for terrorists...

..and I think that it is rather special,,,that all the major ,world class corporate criminality has come from Texas....I dont think it was a coincidence that the strange California energy crisis occured right after he slimed into the oval office...somehow ,,a bunch of Texas corporations,(including Enron),were all of a sudden able to jack up the price of electricity,in unheard of amounts,,,Californians got BURNED!...Bigtime....the shrub pretended it was a tragic suprise,,and that us Californians brought it on ourselves by being such bogarts,,,and allowing some deregulation hoo-doo thing that let Texas Bogarts suck California in what I think was an early attempt to promote the Enron fakeout
