Breaking News
Source: London Evening Standard

cannabis Britain's first Amsterdam-style cafe selling cannabis has opened amid a scuffle between a police officer and the manager. The fracas broke out at the Dutch Experience, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, after a plain-clothed detective revealed to manager Colin Davies that he was inside.

Mr Davies, who has multiple sclerosis, came out of his business demanding that the police officer show him a warrant. A uniformed officer was then involved in an altercation with Mr Davies, who was trapped in the door.

Major error in my last post...[I warned you]

That was NOT Bush who authored that song, it was OASIS. Now there is a mistake that SHOULD get you 20 years in a fed prison, loading cinderblocks by hand onto tractor trailers for 18 hours a day, with nothing to eat but Lipton's Beef Broth and a slice of bread straight from a bakery outlet store.

Kap., my theory of an escalation...

in the WoD entails the "Warshington Monkeyhouse" finding a direct link with the funds used to finance the terrorist operations to drug trafficking, and in turn interdiction efforts will be greatly intensified. The sad, pathetic hordes who cry for blood will be reinforced GREATLY to believe even more so, that people who ingest mood altering substances are not just weak and immoral, now they will be seen as VERY UNPATRIOTIC. We imprison the weak and immoral, but we burn those who commit "treason" I see a sentencing reform possible that will have most of us who can, heading to the Canadian Border with backpacks[full of every dollar we could grab from our savings] only to be turned away because we didnt have wire cutters good enough to get thru the 7 walls of barbed wire that will soon be standing there, from "Sea to shining sea".

"Me and my soul we know where were going, were
going where the grass is free, the air is clean, and
the good times are growing, so take me away,
just for today, cause Im sad here on my own, Id
like to be under the sea, but Id probably need a
phone... I could be you if I wanted to, but I never
got the time, you could be me, and pretty soon
you will be, but your gonna need a line...

our government will push their momentary "mandate as far and

it's just a few executive orders away...

my daughter called from berkeley a little while ago...she is

ENOUGH ABOUT EATING CAT MANURE!
Fun's fun, guys, but enough!

The general levity and banter aside, we're about to be lumped in with the likes of bin Laden. Personally, I'm very picky about whom I associate with. Some murderous m*********ker who looks like he is in dire need of a flea collar and sheepdip is now supposed to be our bunkie, according to the Feds. Who are (now) very clumsily trying to kill the proverbial two birds with one stone. By torpedoing both terrorism (can never happen, for the same reason they haven't been able to make a dent in the War on Drugs) and the reform movement (far more likely, because of our small numbers and almost non-existant voice).

I don't know about you, but I'm more than a little worried. Very shortly, the very same slick PR machine that gave us Barry-ola and 'vetted' scripts for TV shows will be doing this job with considerably more panache. And then it won't be just Muslims beaten almost to death on American streets by unthinking yahoos.

We've got to get behind reform organizations like NORML and MPP and all the other such worthies, fast. We have to show the same monetary response for them, the same level of support, as the survivors of the WTC and the Pentagon have received. Because if we don't, as the old saying went, "If we do not hang together, we shall all hang seperately". Some of you will recognize the origins of that particularly prophetic remark; many of the Founders did just that. At the risk of sounding alarmist, the Feds propaganda machine is just starting to get cranked up. When it's in full gear, if we don't have a means of going head to head with the lies, we're screwed.

Tim Stone --

My, my -- what a nice vocabulary we have in our little potty mouth?

And, even Bill Safire (in NEXT week's NYT magazine, out early to cover the WTC thing, I think), wrote a bit on box cutters, putting him in the company our fine C-News writers Kapt. scmeff, FoM and Robbie:

"The suicidal hijackers were able to slip a new weapon through the metal detectors: a box cutter, defined in the on-top-of-the-news New Oxford American Dictionary (to be published next month) as ‘‘a thin, inexpensive razor-blade knife designed to open cardboard boxes.’’ Barbara Olson, a passenger aboard the airliner doomed to be crashed into the Pentagon, was able to telephone her husband, Solicitor General Ted Olson; she told him that the hijackers were armed with knives and what she called a cardboard cutter."

"this is war"
This is not going to slow the WoD, this is going to escalate it.

This observation by CongressmanSuet is of more concern to me than are the insights of RighteousA.

--sensors that look inside things like ocean containers (these are the trailers of semi trucks), buildings (like houses), car trunks (for bombs) will inadvertently find many other dangerous items.

--the reserve soldiers now in our streets will swell in number, and will soon become bored with what i understand is about their only duty, namely, to "be alert". they will find ways to relieve their ennui. people, these soldiers are not readers and thinkers like you and me; many of them are violent, bigoted imbeciles.

-- you will soon find that "i retain my fourth amendment right and all other rights under the Constitution...." no longer only angers cops; additionally, it will get you dragged out of your car.

-- i heard on the radio that three hours are needed to pass a car southward through the canadian border, more time for trucks.

as many have said, it will be on tv soon: drugs = terrorism.

a week ago, and long before, there was much talk about how the u.s. needed the drug war and needed a new war in colombia for the flagging economy and for renewed profits for the corporations who run our wars and select our leaders. now all these companies will be very busy indeed, and if one assumes, for the sake of argument and as a 'thought experiment', that the attacks were allowed, then there is no immediate contradiction. it's not necessary to hold that the attacks were specifically allowed; it is enough to assume, for the sake of argument and to play a devil's advocate, that a purposeful laxity in general security preceeded them with the expectation that some kind of an attack would certainly come. one must consider, along with these unpleasant thoughts, how the drug war was losing a lot of its popular support both domestically and throughout europe and the americas, how 'plan colombia' was coming under sharp and growing criticism and how tens of millions of dollars were handed to the taliban in the spring of this year as payment for their promise to eradicate drugs in afghanistan. you will recall too how roosevelt in fact allowed the attack on pearl harbor because of strong u.s. anti-war sentiment in 1941; that's right, americans at that time were largely opposed to entering the european conflict - until dec. 7, 1941 when the attack surprised many but not all.

but it really doesn't matter. the fact is that the governemnt was either unwilling or unable to protect us: we were indeed successfully attacked and it was perhaps the most spectacular successful attack in the history of warfare conducted not by cowards but by, as Harry Browne said, people who "gave their lives for whatever stupid beliefs they held." now our enemies have promised more attacks and we would be fools to doubt them. airplanes will not be of use again, so one must prepare for atomic and biological attacks which will occur on the west coast or at least far inland from the east coast so that prevailing winds spread death and contamination; conventional explosions should be expected on the east coast and everywhere else. you might say that i am an evil person for making such statements, but if our governemnt is not presently considering these and even more sinister possibilities then it is surely remis.

now i do not want to live with these dangers among us either. but it is a temporary job for intelligence services and a few tough cops to ferret them out; it's not an endless program for soldiers on the streets keeping "alert."

the trouble is that the governemnt will take these possibly contrived circumstances to take permanent powers that it will not yield when the danger has passed; and it may well arrange that the danger never quite passes so that there will not even be the call or expectation that new powers be yielded. the more enemies we make, the more terrorists we can expect to enter here.

i already heard bush's speech wherin he called upon us to make various sacrifices - sacrifice our time, our patience, whatever, a list of three quite nebulous sacrifices that must be made. well, those sacrifices will grow more specific and more demanding each day. his word were then followed by those of another rich white boy, i forget his name, telling us that this war would go on for "years." Kiss my ass! I don't want another war that goes on for "years." In my lifetime i've had enough of them. What i want to hear is how the government is taking steps to end the threat, the steps it will take to end the danger now and the policies it will adopt to make sure that we can get along with our neighbors. one must ask the questions why are we hated so and why were *we* attacked when other countries are not attacked, and what are we going to do to make the world a peaceful place as soon as possible so that i can once again take up my stargazing and forget about the 'hammer of vengeance'. our leaders, it seems, were educated solely from marvel comic books. I do not want to hear about another war that is going to go on for "years." promising me a baseball game on monday is not enough, D.C. shitheads, jsut as making the trains run on time was not enough, and if you cannot bring peace very soon, then americans will sooner or later get sick of your demands for sacrifice and you will be hung by your heels like il duce and corpseworms will guide the planet.

but i'm afraid the end to death and sacrifice will come later, not sooner, because you have created a race of ignoramuses.

..I've often entertained these kind of concepts..,,,
,,Imagine if some daring pioneer who was seeking a
buzz tried smoking a chunk of cat shit,,and it was
like a luxurious hash-crack buzz, and it reduced the
signs of aging,,plus,,it cleared your lungs of all residues
of past tobacco abuse............I guess then cat ownership
would become a felony,,and cat-shit would be schedule 1
in the controlled substance act....and the ondcp would be
playing TV ads at 4:30 in the morning,,saying;"Cat shit is for losers...just say no to cat shit"

Fate of the drug war
Does anyone have any thoughts on how the drug war will be affected by the attack? Could this be the beginning of the end? Or will it be escalated? A lot of people have acknowledged that the illegal drug trade has funded many, if not all, of the current terrorist groups. That would make me think that it is time to end the drug war and stop the gravy train to these groups. Does anyone agree or disagree?

The Bible
Ekim, I always wonder about that too but I come to the conclusion that ignorant people only read what they like. You never see them mention these parts of the Bible. Don't worry, God will have a chat with them some day. I agree that Prohibition makes it easier for kids to get drugs that is why I am in favor of legalizing all drugs with controls. Cannabis should be legalized with no controls which means anyone can grow it. Kids would not care to try it because there is no danger of getting caught which makes it less exciting. Anyway I hope people open their eyes someday because there are alot of sucessfull people who smoke Cannabis.

Funny how people see different things---NOT
This is part of a recent post that was sent to me.

Again here is the word of the Lord:

Gen 1:29-30
29. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you is shall be for meat. 30. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there-is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

God said, EVERY green herb, not just what some politician says we can eat!!! My question to the prohibitionists on this planet: "who died and made you have more authority than God?"

Gen 9:3
3. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

If you are arrested for hemp possession, and you put your hand on a bible in front of a judge and say, the truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth, take that bible and open it to Gen 1:29 !!!

Paul the Apostle speaks clearly of prohibitional hypocrisy in I Timothy 4:2-5 that for a man to command someone to abstain from meats that God hath created is wrong. This verse is an absolute accord with Gen 1:29-30 "Every green herb!!!"

No man refutes the wisdom of King Solomon who wrote many psalms and proverbs as he says in absolute detail in Psalm 104 that God's works in nature include our eating of God's creations.

Psalm 104:14-15
14. He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that may bring forth food out of the earth. 15. And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face shine, and bread which strenghtheneth man's heart."

Amazingly, Jesus himself states "There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man."(Mark 7: 8-16) so... it is what comes out, not what goes in... If I smoke pot and do nothing to hurt anyone, prohibition means that I get thrown in jail anyway.

Finally, if my words and simple reason are not enough to convince the good Senators of Michigan to repeal prohibition, and Words canonized in the Bible which we all swear upon are not enough, please consider the lucent contemplations of U.S. Senior District Judge of Denver Co. Judge John L. Kane Jr. and his anti-drugwar opinion and the two dozen other judges that have dissenting opinions on prohibition.

Right On, Righteous_Anger, and Bravo to You
Am I the only one here who sees this as a parody? I mean come on, this is so over the top that it is obviously a put on. Comparing Mr. Davis to a terrorist certainly connects it in with current events, and sadly reflects what some people "think". Even the name of the link, which would not work for me (probably because the organization doesn;t exist), "Citizens for Moral Purity and the Family and Saving the Children", is a little too close to the attitudes of some groups to be real.

And bravo for the heroic police who have taken this dangerous drug pusher off our street. Who says bravo anymore if they are being serious?

I wonder if R_A is actually dddd with another name. I notice dddd hasn't posted yet.

A plant that is far safer than cigarettes and alcohol.
Cigarettes kill 400,000 people in the US each year.
Alcohol kills 100,000+ people in the US each year.
Marijuana has never killed anyone. Marijuana is not addictive. Marijuana does not cause cancer! Marijuana does not damage your brain! What's going on here!?

I'll tell ya what's goin' on. There is a bunch of ignorant control freaks that make these irrational laws! They are suppressing our natural freedoms as humans! They are trying to stop the natural ways that GOD has given us by putting marijuana here on this earth! They are trying to stop LIFE!
They are trying to suppress the reality and essence of LIFE! LEGALIZE MARIJUNA NOW!

Like WoW!
I like most of the planet are extremly sad at the events that happened in america. This is not the place, or anything to do with that fact. This is a web site set up to inform people on the progress of the legalisation of a non harmful drug.

Righteous_Anger: i understand your pain, but while you might not believe me, if cannabis was legalised, like alcohol it would be more controlled and be kept out of childrens hands.. since its illegal its all too easy to get hold of. Legalisation means so much more protection for children.

I dont condone drugs to anyone, i dont wish to smoke spliff's in public.. i only use cannabis as stress relieve after a hard days work where i'm a systems analyst. I'm only telling you this because I'm a successful person who would rather smoke a single joint after work to relax then drink a bottle of wine which i'm forced to do currently since cannabis is illegal.

Yes I have issues with the way i relax, stress is all too much part of my life and with cannabis, i'd live healthier and be so much more part of the community I serve.

Who wants to deal with a drunkard.. and I'll tell you this.. you'd never know I was stoned if i bumped into you in the street apart from when I enter a shop and purchase munchie material.. which isnt junk food.. its apples and oranges and fruit in large quantities.

Then again I'm not you average Joe Bloggs.. people are scared of change.. legalise cannabis, control it with laws and only good will come out of it.

Brits vs. California
Although the Brits don't have any formal medpot law that I know of, it sounds like the battle there is shaping to be roughly similar to the ongoing medpot struggle in CA. My guess would be that the Brits will wind up handling the complex legal and moral issues a heckuva lot more inteligently than the rogue cops and D.A.s in CA. And the British public's views don't seem nearly as ignorant and primitive as much of America's. It'll be very interesting to see how the situation works out over there.

BTW, www.purityandfamily.org is the URL that RA posted. A Google search shows nothing even remotely like that anywhere. Sounds like RA is either a silly agent provocateur, or more likely, a mere coprocephalidon (to get around the injunction against profanity).

We exercise our rights to free speech and the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We do so without infringing upon the rights of others to pursue what makes them happy. We do so without taking the life of our fellow Americans. We do so because it is our God given right to do so as citizens under the Constitution that our great country is founded upon and that people like you have no respect for. We are the traditional Americans. We are the conservatives. We hear and heed the words of Jefferson and Washington. We do not tolerate hate mongers such as yourself who would cower under the guise of religious authority and strike out against that and those you fear like the snakes you are. You are no better than the terrorists that destroy the lives of so many beings. You dispel your nonsensical rhetoric with complete disregard for fact or reason. You say you do this for your children- then stop filling their hearts with hate and disrespect.

This man, this brave man, is exercising his rights. He gives comfort to those who need peace of mind and freedom from pain. He is a responsible adult who would never allow drugs to harm children or others. We need people like him and establishments like his. Friendly, clean, and reliable places where harmless "drugs" can be distributed to responsible users; note that he does note sell the poison that is alcohol- a poison that destroys the lives of thousands every year in this country. With such establishments in place, drug use and distribution can be controlled and monitored- the only way to counter the black market, the source of drug crime, is to provide a safe and legal market that sells marijuana grown here in our own country by Americans, for Americans.

By forcing drug users to the black market, you only encourage the black market. We know drug use exists so there is no use in hiding it any longer. Expose the black market to the light of day, to the light of justice, to the light of truth, to the light of responsibility, and it will wither and die.

If you do not see this, then go. Go and cower behind your god of hate, relish in the hate that fills your heart, wallow in the blackness of ignorance, go and rejoice in your hate of that which is right and just. I and my fellow American citizens will continue to uphold the great Constitution, and will never rest until we have eliminated the hate and fear that destroys this great nation. We will exercise our God given freedoms and we will fight to protect our fellow Americans and our children from hate mongers like you. We will fight with words of reason and truth. It's light shines on our path to victory over those who would detroy America and for which it stands!

Righteous
I tried to go to the link R_A posted to see what this group is all about (unlike antis, I try not to judge people on the basis of a few statements) but the link is busted.

Care to try again, R_A? I'd like to see what your people have to say; you antis haven't been able to come up with any original material since 1977. Maybe you'll surprise us...though, I rather doubt it.

How can anyone be so backward?
Righteous_Anger:

You're mentality is so limited that you actually believe your own rhetoric. I beg you to open your tight little mind and let a crack of light shine through.

Mr. Davies and men like him are trying to keep marijuana away from children. It's the black market that preys on children and people's weaknesses, not legitimate, responsible marijuana users like Mr. Davies and myself.

It's not the drugs that underground thugs make money from, it's the laws against drugs that they make money from.

You can't, or won't, see this basic, simple truth because you are caught up in hatred and prejudice - just like a terrorist. It is you, Righteous_Anger, who support the terrorists. And anyone with common sense can see that.

Thank you...

RA for making a post that is so blind and ridiculous, it is its own perfect example. We need more "like" thinking citizens to stand up, speak out, and show us who the REAL terrorists are...I would invite Kap to bring his carving knife for this one, but I think all that is needed is a toothpick to pop a whole in this ugly bag of wind.

Righteous?

And thank YOU R_A for justifying my further dislike and total distrust for those who are ignorant, vindictive, and stand behind a "moral purity" that they don't actually have. Don't mind what's going on outside R_A...take a valium and go back into the cave.

Bravo!
Thank the good Lord that evil man has been arrested! Authorities have saved the children from a terrible fate of drug addiction and hopeless little lives. I am glad the police will bring this drug dealer to justice! Why, it is wicked men like Mr Davies who sell and use drugs who are responsible for all bad things and terrorism! Drug users support the terrorists who would destroy us and our way of life! Mr Davies is a terrorist: killing our children with the terrible things that drugs do! Bravo, I say, bravo for the brave, heroic police that have taken this dangerous drug pusher off of our streets! Drug users are the true enemy, a despicable fifth column wrecking our culture with terror!

You're right Robbie
I guess Robbie I wouldn't have thought twice if I had a box cutter on me either. You're right. We don't think like a terrorist.

box-cutters

I wouldn't have thought a thing about taking a box-cutter on a plane. I don't think anyone else would have either before Tuesday. They're tools, or usually are. Their threat as a weapon is the same as a broken piece of glass...exteremely limited.

How did they miss them?
We have box cutters now that I look at the picture. How did they pass security because they could be a deadly weapon as we now know so well?

Boxcutters....
...are mostly all handle, but (in most cases) use a razor blade or modified razor blade at the tip to cut open boxes. Some allow the blade (rarely over 3" long) to be retracted into the handle, in others the blade is fixed. The one in my shop is made by Stanley tools. The handle can be disassembled by loosening one large screw; extra blades are then stored inside the handle, and come in many different configurations or types of blade for cutting boxes, linoleum, carpet....whatever. Not a particularly good defensive weapon, as the design is generally such as to preclude the possibility of cutting oneself. Possibly useful for slashing, but not too good for stabbing, as the blade is very short, and in most cases, only the very tip protrudes from the handle.

Boxcutters
Are usually a flat, plastic handled knife that uses the same type of razor blades used in paint scrapers; the kind that have a metal band welded or pressed over one side of the blade for grasping. If you go to a hardware store and as for a "Widget" knife, you'll see what I meant

Here's pix of common boxcutter designs:http://www.pacifichandycutter.com/boxcutters.htm

News Brief from The Associated Press
Police in Britain Arrest Owner of New Marijuana Cafe

A campaigner for the legalization of marijuana was arrested Saturday after opening Britain's first Dutch-style cafe openly selling the drug.

Colin Davies, a multiple sclerosis sufferer who uses marijuana to ease his symptoms, was involved in a scuffle with police soon after opening the doors of The Dutch Experience in a Manchester suburb 180 miles northwest of London.

As he was put into the back of a police van, one of his supporters shouted, "He's a healer, not a dealer."

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said Davies was arrested for possessing marijuana "with intent to supply" it to others.

Davies, founder of the Medical Marijuana Cooperative, which campaigns for the drug to be prescribed for illnesses like multiple sclerosis, made headlines last year when he was photographed handing Queen Elizabeth II a bouquet containing pot plants during a royal visit to the city.

After Davies' arrest Saturday, police searched the cafe and arrested several other people for possessing the drug, which is more commonly called cannabis in Britain.

Kate Bradley, a former policewoman who has smoked marijuana since 1991 to ease the pain of multiple sclerosis, said the police raid was an "undignified and horrendous experience."

Bradley, who uses a wheelchair, said for many people marijuana is the only drug that helps with the pain.

"It controls my pain and the spasms I get, and a lot of medical people believe that cannabis should be used to help people like me," she said.

In the Netherlands, marijuana is technically illegal, but authorities tolerate its use and it is openly sold in small amounts.
