  Coalition Criticizes Drug Czar Nominee

justice A coalition of civil liberties and public health groups has called for close scrutiny of drug czar nominee John Walters when he goes before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

The Coalition for Compassionate Leadership on Drug Policy criticizes Walters for dismissing sentencing disparities among racial groups as ''urban myths'' and for advocating the use of courts to force drug users into treatment programs.

Lehder, I absolutely agree..
We can start right now by registering appropriately as you suggest.

Then we should continue to watch the Congressional races, the Senatorial races and perhaps even district level races. In every one of these races, we must make sure to clarify without a doubt that no Democrat or Republican will get our vote. Period. We should ask for the Libetarian candidate, or the Green candidate.

I agree with you. Let us pull our weapon out right now - before they take even that away.

and that will make a current registration "election" all the scarier for them. right-on.

Lehder..
I suggested one more thing, and that is to keep a watchful eye on the 2002 elections. Remember that the Presidential elections are not the only ones that count; and, in fact, the President counts less than getting the right people in the House and Senate.

Listen to Silent_Observer!!
If each one of us who browses this board decides to take the next step to shun the two major parties and vote their conscience - not necessarily Libertarian like me, but it sure would be nice if we could exploit the synergy that comes from voting for the same party - I think miracles could be accomplished.

I've said it before and, at the risk of preaching to the choir, I'll say it again. The one thing that the White House, the Congress and the Senate are terrified of is being voted out.

It's in another one of your comments, SilentO, that I'm still looking for - I'll find it and post again - that you either said almost explicity or else at least suggested a GREAT IDEA - thanks!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could have another presidential election TODAY? Guess what: we can. In fact, on Monday, you can vote twice. If you're a registered dem or rep you can vote once for leaving your current party. Then you can vote again by registering Lib or Green. If you're not registered at all, then get out and vote once by registering.

Friends, these are the votes that get counted. They're counted every month by both parties. And the count is fair: no pregnant shads, no bs. These are numbers they really want. And we can send the strongest signal and clearest message ever. They're scared already. Watch 'em shake.

You have no excuse. You can't say, "But then the wrong guy will win - lesser of two evils." Not in this election.

C'mon, people. Time to rock and roll. This election has only begun. Spread the word. Hurry!

read the essay...it makes some excellent points...thank you,

bush is stacking the deck...congress may not let waters have
the job...just to throw us a bone, like "the lowest court in
the land" did with it's decision concerning heat sensing
devices awhile back...

i've concluded that our government is the enemy...it is the
result of a long planned and executed conspiracy to
overthrow the people of the united states...i believe it
started during the kennedy administration or before...JFK
wouldn't play ball and they killed him...bobby kennedy
wouldn't either...dr. king expressed the ideas of freedom
and conscience far too well for the conspirators' comfort...

it may be too late for a peaceful return to the ideals
expressed in the constitution...

a severe recession will come...it could slide into a
depression...if GWB allows that to happen(and i don't think
he can stop it), we may have the incentive to demand real
change...our elected officials will know no peace...

this is the one thing we do control...our own spending
habits...if we fear the future economy, we start cutting
expenses...our confidence in the future is decaying...their
stranglehold on us will inevitably follow...

next Tuesday
...I believe is the day that the czar nominee will go before
the good ol' boys for the "confirmation hearing" thing.
..I predict that them ol' boys are gonna be treading a bit
more cautiously than in the previous rubber stamp approvals
of Ashcroft, and Hutchinson.....this Waters guy is a rather
radical idiot,,,and I believe there is a chance that he might
not make it to the ondcp throne.....maybe,,,just maybe they
will vote him down,,in an attempt to make it appear that they
actually are making decisions....Waters seems to me to be a
bit reclusive, and stoic, and he doesnt really seem like a "team
player".He does not have the advantage of being a former member
of the congressional clique, and I wouldnt be suprized if he falls
victim to lawmakers who are attempting to seem balanced,,and
who still feel an embedded sense of guilt for the absurd approval
of Asscroft,and the Hutchster....dddd

A truly scary thought
Could this really be far fatched?

They break down your door on specious evidence, lock up your house, take your car, confiscate all your possessions and force you to prove your innocence.

This is happening today (and worse, some might say).

But just imagine this. They then prevent you from voting until you clear yourself.

Think about this - "they" can then target anybody who disagrees with "them", haul you away on spurious charges and take away your vote! And still call "themselves" a democratic government.

And you thought this could only happen in Central America?

Legal Weapon 2
I've posted along these lines before, but I think it bears repeating.

First off, let me echo the sentiments of one the earlier posters regarding this site. This is the most wonderful forum we could have for communicating serious issues like freedom and civil liberties.

That said, while I empathize with all the observations and comments made by just about everyone on the board - and, my I say, the overwhelming majority of them being extremely articulate and intelligent - I would submit to you all the the time has come for action.

We have a weapon, and it is legal - perfectly legal. In fact, it is more than legal, it is an obligation. You all know what I'm referring to.

The Vote.

This is the weapon they are truly afraid of, and have not taken away from us yet. Along with asset forfeiture laws, it wouldn't surprise me all that much if, 5 years from now, our voting rights were stripped away from us.

Then we would truly have no weapon.

Please everyone......start using it...now!

Thanks for your indulgence..:)

...I read several reports of escalation in fighting down in
Colombia...I got a feeling it's gonna get quite a bit more ugly
down there in the next coupla months.....They are going to
attempt to blast all the FARC out of the jungle,,,and I really
doubt that those new helicopters will be used as "transports",
,,I'll betchya those copters were outfitted with the latest,hi-tech
U.S. missle launchers and guns,as soon as they arrive down there.
Of course,,the US warpigs will deny having anything to do with it,
and they will say the Colombians outfitted them with the armaments.

Take it from an expert:
All force which does not spring from a firm spiritual foundation will be hesitating and uncertain. It lacks the stability which can only rest on a fanatical view of life.

Every attempt at fighting a view of life by means of force will finally fail, unless the fight against it represents the form of an attack for the sake of a new spiritual direction. Only in the struggle of two views of life with each other can the weapon of brute force, used continuously and ruthlessly, bring about the decision in favor of the side it supports.

Conscience is a Jewish invention. It is a blemish like circumcision.

I am freeing men from the restraints of an intelligence that has taken charge; from the dirty and degrading modifications of a chimera called conscience and morality....

The intellect has grown autocratic and has become a disease of life.

We must distrust the intelligence and the conscience and must place our faith in our instincts.

Unless you are prepared to be pitiless you will get nowhere.

...if a people is to become free it needs pride and will-power, defiance, hate, hate and once again hate.

Brutality is respected. Brutality and physical strength. The plain man in the street respects nothing but brutal strength and ruthlessness.

Proof that Plan Colombia is working! None of the legalization arguments hold any water now, and it's time for America to redouble its efforts in Colombia with more eradication aid.

The more I read the worse I feel
I was wanting to comment about something rabblerouser said in comment 9. I was thinking today after watching pot-tv about the funeral they will be having this weekend. I was wondering what the signs should say. I was thinking about Patrick Henry's famous quote: "Give me liberty or give me death." Actually I think it needs to be on both headstones.

I was following the link at comment 1 and it went to the Undernews. The daily news service of the Progressive review. What an unbelievable good site for the whole news and for trying to figure out what is going on. This would be http://prorev.com/indexa.htm

On the left side is a column headed "Essays Readers have enjoyed." I whole heartily recommend everybody read "How you became the enemy." One thing it is saying is that territorial boundaries such as countries are unimportant to the wealthy and are being replaced with a emphasis on making the wealthy wealthier. Globalization I guess. I love cannabis news because they tell things that are happening the controlled media will not disclose, but this site might be more informative when trying to figure out the big picture. It has a drug section and many good links including at least 4 drug reform links.

I hope we can galvanize a strong showing in the next elections. I am not so sure the thing to do is vote against every single incumbent there is all the way down to dog catcher. The entrenched power does not want change. People like Trent Lott have acquired wealth and power under the present system and why should he want change? The entrenched power needs to be removed just to show that the American voter is in control and not the multinational corporations. I had a friend that worked at a bifg radio station that hired a new manager and the first thing he did was let every person go and started over. I think we need to become the managers again and let them all go. Their replacements can then find out the new national order.

I hope they put "Give me Liberty or give me death" on both tombstones.

They cannot even arrest two good old boys and now they tell us they can shoot down missiles if they only had 60 billion. Look at all the expensive toys the LEO's have now and they cannot even arrest two people. Please read "How you became the enemy."

That was very nice. Kill a person with kindness. I agree.

The Hurt and Manufacturing Dissent
Thank you, 4d for the high comment at a previous post. A pat on the back is appreciated however my purpose in this mission is to end this complete insanity.

Mission Impossible is a movie, an old television show. This mission is to win hearts and minds of the people standing next to me. A life in these now cyber catacombs is preferred to the wild dogs eating everything alive on the outside. It's thumbs down in the colosieum, the fbi gladiators stand proudly before the emperor with their hunted dead prey. Let the Roman Holiday begin; bring on the wine and the whores.

"The only thing that's left is kind of a ratty old chicken coop. Thank goodness those chickens have a roof over their heads." John E. Bell Jr. I guess he is the fox guarding it, too. Oh, the error of their ways.

The guy has more sympathy for chickens than people. "Houston, we've got a problem."

Be that as it may, here we are in the 21st century with rocketships, spacestations, computers, the finest housing known to man and we can't raise our tolerances enough so that the whole human race isn't threatened? If you think that I am wrong, you are wrong! These matters are serious and grave, believe me.

I just sit here not really knowing what to write because I am stunned at what has happened.
It is the hurt the families of each victim are feeling right now.
I get the feeling that I am surrounded, that there are guns aimed at my head right now.

Death is final. You feel helpless, there is nothing that can be done that will make it different. The grief, the sorrow, the hurt that is there stays and it won't go away. It may subside, but it won't go away.

If there is anymore killing to go on, kill the person next to you with kindness. You never know, they may not be there tomorrow.

Love life, the only way that can be done is to have liberty.

I see the death, but not the liberty. Where has it gone?

Ol' Patick Henry was right, give me liberty or give me death.

If the government wants to give death, then there is no liberty!

Hi firedog,

You might want to register your name. You don't have to but if you don't want anyone to use your name I would recommend it and if you don't want to that's fine.

http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/register.shtml

I am an anti number person in the sense that I don't place much importance on it. I'd rather look for the news and read the comments and what will be will be.

We are growing for anyone that is interested. The hits for August were: 1,415,838 Total Hits

This month because of this tragedy it is very high too. I appreciate all the comments and support very much. It wouldn't be happening without all of you.

Thanks for this site FoM and everyone else
I'm not surprised to see the articles posted here get rehashed in other publications. It seems like this has happened quite a few times in the last month or two.

I'm sure that for reporters in the know, this is a great site for doing research on the state of cannabis in the world today. I don't know of any other site that covers cannabis so well and so intelligently.

Come to think of it, I don't know of any other sites that cover a particular topic in such depth and in such a timely manner. A lot of them don't update very often, so you can't get the latest news.

I would be willing to bet that this site is quietly becoming a strong influence in the community of those who care about cannabis, meaning those who care about it as a sacred herb, an amazing medicine, and a powerful tool for enhancing creativity. In short, all those that feel that having cannabis available would improve the world and that keeping it from the people is harming the world.

I can't imagine what the world would be like if cannabis were legalized today... I think if properly harnessed, the world would improve beyond the scope of anyone's imagination. Like the Kottonmouth Kings say, "guaranteed there'd be peace not greed!"

As always,

- Firedog

lol
I have no doubt that if the government paid their media puppets to eat cat shit and tell everyone else to eat it, McDonald's would have McCrap on the menu in a week.

Switching gears entirely... I was surfing around a bit to see how well repressed the feds were keeping the Rainbow raid and I stumbled upon an article about the DEA raiding the Sioux at Pine Ridge (on MSNBC of all places!) The article is actually pretty good (for a bought out news org)http://www.msnbc.com/news/616149.asp?0si=-
but it is the date that caught my eye- Sept. 7th. Cannabis news grabbed the story August 29th.

I wonder if they slow because the government needs to proofread the articles to make sure nothing bad is said about their DEA boys?

And as a side note, I caught the story about the Sioux on NPR (national public radio), one of the few widely broadcast commercial free news sources. Anyway, go to npr.org and do a search for hemp. It only brings up the archive for the story on the first raid but other interesting hemp stories are there.

I love listening to the news because I know whats happening a week before the mainstream news orgs air it.

peace

the only people..
..who thought Bush mighty lead,,,,are the same ones who are
excited about their tax "refund",or "rebate",,,which is tragicly
hilarious in reality it is merely the return of stolen funds, that
will be re-stolen in next years tax return....It's alot like the car
sales promotions that say stuff like;"get $2000.00 dollars CASH
back from Dodge when you buy a Ram ClubCab.."..........
...now,,if we consider that there are people who are actually thinking
that they are somehow getting "cash back",when buying the Dodge,
then there are also plenty of embicles say stuff like,,;"Yup,,,Bush
is givin' the money back to thuh peepul".........Do you remember the
medias' super blanket coverage of this cheap tax scam?It was at the
top of the news ,,,simultaneously,,,everywhere.......And that's another
way too obvious sign that the media is owned, and operated by one entity,
the headlines are almost always the same on all networks,,as if they all
somehow coincidently knew what the most important news was.....maybe

...this is all some weird illusion that only I can see in my strange little world...
.....well,,,if it is,,,I'll eat several pieces of barbequed cat shit,,or maybe
baby back catshit,,,,,,,it dont take the threat of catshit-kabobs to see that
my media rantings, and ramblings are sickeningly real,,,,,the hardest part
is being appropiatly shocked, and outraged.....I think that alot of people live
under the strange illusion that if things were actually really bad,,everyone
else would be freaking out,and speaking up,,,but unfortunatly,,"everyone
else",turns out to be a bunch of the same people who think everyone else is
not them,,,and everyone else turns out to be everyone............

weirdddd

For anyone who thought Bush might lead...
''He [Walters] remains a cheerleader for the curative virtues of the prison cell over treatment programs,'' he said. ''He's not only out of step with America on this one, he's even out of step with other conservatives.''

The Bush administration said it stands behind its nominee.

That doesn't sound like someone who is looking to reform anything.
