Groups Show Concern on Anti-Drug Bid

justice A coalition of civil rights and health groups expressed concern Thursday that President Bush's choice to lead the nation's fight against drugs would sacrifice prevention and rehabilitation programs in favor of punishing users.

The Coalition for Compassionate Leadership on Drug Policy also criticized John Walters for denying that young black men are disproportionately jailed on drug charges and for opposing reforms to mandatory minimum sentencing requirements.

The coalition does not endorse or oppose nominees, but individual members spoke harshly about Walters, promising serious opposition if he does not soften his views.

"It's truly disturbing to have our nation's nominee for the top drug policy spot be a throwback to a more intolerant and reactionary way of thinking," said Vincent Schiraldi of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice.

White House spokeswoman Anne Womack defended Walters as a "respected and experienced leader in drug policy" who would oversee a balanced drug control program.

"The White House is committed to a balanced approach toward the problem of drug abuse in the United States, with emphasis both on demand reduction and prevention," she said.

Hilary Shelton, director of the Washington bureau of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said the groups have taken their concerns to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I believe you'll see many more of the organizations that are members of the coalition taking stronger positions" after Walters' confirmation hearing before the Judiciary Committee next Tuesday, Shelton said.

Several organizations, including the Justice Policy Institute, are sending a letter asking senators to vote against Walters' nomination. The letter says, "His views on race and crime make him unfit for a position that requires sensitivity to racial fairness."

"If the prototypical drug prisoner in America were a white, middle-class kid from the suburbs, Mr. Walters would be calling for a national state of emergency to be declared," said Schiraldi. "I'm not really waiting to hear the song and dance in front of the Senate."

David Carle, spokesman for Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said he was "not aware of any senator on the committee who has made up his or her mind about the nomination yet."

Walters, a protege of former drug policy director William Bennett, has been called a hard-liner in the drug fight, favoring tough law enforcement measures and being skeptical of treatment programs and other efforts to reduce demand.

lehder, dddd...economics...
i'm not an economist and make no claims concerning
expertise...i'm just joe sixpack minus the alcohol...

an economic downturn starts in the MINDS of those affected...

people see a headline something like INTEL LAYS OFF 10% OF
WORKFORCE...they might not even think about it
consciously...but come the weekend they mow the lawn instead
of taking that overnight trip to the beach, or to reno...

they pay down a credit card instead of going out to dinner...

you get the picture...

that restaurant's business falls 5%(he lays off a dishwasher
and cuts the hours of a part time waiter)...the grocer sells
more ground beef and fewer T-bones...his gross goes down
2%...( he doesn't hire 2 baggers from the local high school
and cuts the hours of a checker and a stock clerk...)

these folks whose business's decrease or have their hours
cut, lose their jobs, or don't get hired, start cutting
their spending which in turn costs more people more jobs...

you get the picture...it's a vicious circle that is easy to
start...because it's the MINDSET of those involved which
starts the ball rolling, down and down...

that grocer and restaurant owner tell their friends that
business is down...the appliance store owner agrees, noting
that his repairmen are working overtime but new appliances
are sitting...( he's thinking of reducing his order from MAYTAG)

bad news spreads much faster than good...pretty soon
everyone is talking about how bad things are looking...the
media jumps on the bandwagon and spends more space on
economic(bad) news...

everyone is thinking about "what if" they get layed off, the
stock market takes a dive, their businesses slump...they
start tightening their belts, just a little, cuz they all
have to live...but they are using their plastic less,
economizing in small ways...just a little worried...

actual spending may only go down 1/4% at first...but that
and the media hype is enough to turn a slight blip into a
full blown recession...snowballing as more and more jobs are
lost...trillions of $$$ in lost equity in the stock market...

the word is CONFIDENCE...that is diminishing daily...it
won't be long, folks...

The corporate newspapers in my area have chosen to ignore Vandalia. There is nada, zip, zilch, nothing about the events in southern michigan.

Know what I think is just as effective as voting? STOP LOOKING AT THE PROPAGANDA. That's right, give it up. Simply fail to know what swill is being pushed at the people via the mega corp-owned newspapers and TV news.

To paraphrase a famous quote from the 60's: what if they produced propaganda that nobody looked at?

Far be it from me....
..to use up the Kaptins lunch hour with the usual well deserved compliments,,
so I will move on to one of the more spooky points that were made, and that
is,,,,;
>"But let enough people be forced to spend time 'walking the bricks', and you have a situation ripe for civil unrest. Which is why we have the militarization of police, to confront and control that eventuality. The DrugWar is itself just a convenient excuse for the preparations needed when the Global Plantation is ready to be sprung on the masses and the ones with enough wit to see what’s happening take to the streets."<

Dr. Nemo recieves yet another honorary degree from the Astoundment Institute for this articulation. All I can do,is attempt to embellish Kaps sturdy observations.....

Once again,,I go to my pet topic,,,The News....
Here again,,the general public has been kept safely unaware of the recent events in Genoa, and all the other previous police state occurances...Even before the WTO thing in Seattle, there was the presidential convention in LA,,and one thing all these events have in common,is the definite spin of the media...What little news coverage that came across,,,told of violent protesters,,and justified police actions.....There were no national reports of outrage or critism......We didnt see Stone Phillips,or Ted Koppel even suggest any impropriety on the part of law enforcement....perhaps if Land Sharks had attacked someone in Seattle,or Genoa,,we could have had a Dateline special,,and Diane Sawyer would have interviewed the land shark victims mom on Good Freekin Morning Amerika!!,,,,,and "Amerikas Most Flaunted",would have showed the dazzling underwater no-knock warrant raid,on the land sharks crackhouse headquarters in Miami...dddd

Great Thread!
Looks like there is some passion out there. Great comments folks, thanks. I agree that voting is very important. I have voted in every election since I could (nearly 25 years now). And for the record I didn’t vote for Mike Honda. I voted for the republican nominee, Tom Campbell. On several occasions Campbell spoke up about marijuana and was advocate for medical marijuana use. He also was willing to open the debate about marijuana. But, I live in an area with strong democratic presents. People tend to vote party rather than issues. The interesting thing about Honda (this is his first term) is in the last election he was in real trouble in the poles. President Clinton few in at the last minute to provide public support for him. And like a bunch of sheep, undecided voters pulled the handle for Honda.

Voting is important and I won’t stop voting until I die. But, something more is needed (not just more voters). Public opinion needs to change. We are just getting to the point that there is a majority of citizens that want to soften the stance on marijuana. I’m hopeful that this trend will continue. I think the real swing vote needs to come from non-marijuana users. These folks need to get the message that marijuana smokers are hardworking, law abiding, tax paying and not stupid. A couple of you folks brought up the point of money. You pointed out that as the economy softens people will start to question where our tax dollars will go. I hope guys are right. Money does make the drug war go-a-around.

Please, guys, I'm tryin' t' eat!
I've got a hard enough time eating lunch, catching a quick peek at CNews and working at the same time.

And like so many, I'm wondering how long it's going to take before the recession causes me to spend some time on the bricks, too.

Sr. Lehder, when the Feebs cost me my job, I had plenty of time to do the library self-education bit. Needless to say, I learned an awful lot...once I had the time to learn. Wherein lies the problem. I've mentioned before that the vast majority of people are on an economic treadmill. No different from some poor rodent in a circular cage. They simply don't have time to research what so many of us have. Their noses are only just so far above the water that they don't dare open their mouths, questioning things, for fear of drowning.

Which is exactly where the powers that be want them.

It's no accident that the majority of civil protests - and civil unrest - this country had experienced happened in a time of relative economic prosperity in the 1960's. Granted, it was prosperity fueled by the US military/industrial complex's 'adventure' in Viet Nam. But it was a time when the average person could afford to speak up. Lesson learned? Keep the populace on a short leash, so they can't get 'out of control' and confront their would-be 'masters and betters'. Keep them worried about their next meal, sheltering their kids, fuelling the car that takes them to their job, (where half of what they make is stolen in taxes used to forge more chains for them to wear).

Now we have piss-testing to cow the masses. Publicly advocate marijuana re-legalization? Report to the bathroom and surrender a sample! That'll keep the workers in their place!

Now we have all manner of laws saying that you cannot protest close to the area where the reason for the protest exists...especially if that reason happens be a group of very wealthy fat-cats and politicos out to screw the planet and get filthy rich courtesy of their much vaunted 'globalization':

GW to Shut Down During IMF Protests
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54264-2001Sep6.html

Both during and after the Depression there were many people who felt that the then global economic crisis masterminded to undermine people's confidences in democratic governance and welcome tyranny. The proof of that pudding was Tojo and Hitler, who rose to power on the skeletons of democratic institutions.

Now, we have the DrugWar, which is savaging the rights and liberties of the vast majority of Americans...without many of them even being aware. But let enough people be forced to spend time 'walking the bricks', and you have a situation ripe for civil unrest. Which is why we have the militarization of police, to confront and control that eventuality. The DrugWar is itself just a convenient excuse for the preparations needed when the Global Plantation is ready to be sprung on the masses and the ones with enough wit to see what’s happening take to the streets.

Ah, yes, the times, they are a-changin'. But most knives have two edges, and the Drugwarriors and their masters may learn this sooner than they expect if they keep pushing.

As I said a few weeks back, never push people who have nothing to lose. Crosslin was a perfect example of why you shouldn't.

Because people with nothing to lose are damned dangerous.

Found this on DEAWatch
Special Treatment for special people, con't:

I think we should not speak any criticisms of our new Administrator until he's had a chance to make a singular fool of himself.

Understandably, "Choir Boy" Asa is probably a bit depressed because he can't be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with his Moral Mentor and pal Bob "I Hate DEA Because DEA Hired My Ex-Wife" Barr who is, predictably, doing his usual "lone voice crying in the wilderness" routine against another Democrat (Gary Con-did-it) hooked on p***y-chasing. (Of course, no Republican, according to Bob and Asa, falls into the same category. Not even p***y-chaser Henry "Horney" Hyde who, as a self-proclaimed "kid" (at 45-years-old), completely destroyed an entire American family when he sexually seduced a Republican housewife away from her husband and children.)

Bottomline... "Choir Boy" Asa -- just like W. -- has zero vision. Six months after being handed the largest surplus in U.S. history W. is dittoing his Dad's economy-screwing. Six months from now we shouldn't expect DEA to be in any different shape than we are today. Mr. 'Choir boy' hasn't offered any new direction (other than the same type of "read my gyp-lip service W. is known for). And he has offered no new strategy (at least T.C. had something called MET in mind.)

Like his hero, W., Asa is totally vision-less and mindless... and it seems that, to date, DEA has done a lot more for Asa than Asa has done for DEA. We not only helped keep his kid out of jail but we rescued Asa from being mega-embarassed. (Can you believe this dork was actually going to go to a RAVE party??? Somebody needs to subscribe our Choir Boy to a few newspapers so that he is up-to-date on the current 'Risky Business' today's teens are attracted to.)

As of today, I say Asa's DEA honeymoon is over. We don't owe this opportunist anything. He now owes us!!!

JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you... ask what you can do for your country."

We now say to Mr. 'Choir Boy' Hutchinson: You now know what we can do for you and your kids. Now what can you do for us?

your soup de jure
every little bit helps, dddd. and i know from experience that any time i have any kind of idea at all, there are already one million people thinking the same thing. it all adds up.

and i am serious abut talking to older people. they vote and when they are mad they vote with a vengeance. reductions in ss are really going to anger them. they are getting sick off their meds and the costs are breaking them. they need to know the truth about prescription drugs and marijuana. we are winning new friends every day!

i met a man who hangs out at the soup kitchens, doing taxes for the down and outers. he's a bit of a predator, a bit of a revolutionary, a selfish guy not interested in voting. lots of people at the soup kitchens are owed tax refunds or government payments even if they made little or nothing during the year. they don't usually bother to fill out the necessary forms and often don't even know about them. but he has it all computerized. he gets the needed info from them there on the steps on the soup kitchen and gives them instant cash for 1/2 of what they are due. then he sends in the forms and collects the full amount. this guy doesn't vote, but he's taking money from the government. i bet he's not unique either.

if you should become one of the many people who is out of work this year, may i suggest that you spend some time at your local downtown library? every bigcity worthwhile library in the u.s. is surrounded by a huge ghetto of umemployment, crime, homelessness and hopelessness, all brought to you by your wise leaders. you need to take a look at it. on your way to the library you will pass the soup kitchens where people go to eat and buy their medical marijauna, when it's unavailable elsewhere, in 5 and 10 dollar bags: a faith-based progaram.

our soup kitchens are second in national pride and international prestige only to our prisons. visit them often: you can get help with your taxes and you will find there a wealth of information and inspiration.

I cant resist....
.....to somewhat reluctantly giving you my dark spin on all this,,and I
hate to keep trying to pretend as if I'm right,,,but I gotta say,,,you are right
about the money thing Dr Lehder,,,but you are wrong if you think we could
somehow make a recognizable dent,or wave with some sort of tax activism.
The economic realm is monstrous,,,if we somehow instigated a tax revolt
amongst ,,let's say 40% of normal working class folks,,it would be a mere
blip,,,it would be like witholding several turds from the entire New York
sewer system...It's true,,that if one could somehow organize a massive
Boston tea party style tax revolt, using my favorite quote,"No Taxation
Without Representation",,then you might be able to raise a few eyebrows,
but I feel that we are quite beyond the point where a monetary/tax revolution
is within the realm of feasible revolts....Joe Lunchbox, with his wife and kids
is not going to be easily convinced to join the tax rebellion,,Joes' wife will
tell him to stay away from your radical plan,,telling him that the 28% of his
janitors pay that goes to the government,is better than having little Joeys
dad being hauled off to prison by the tax gestapo.......
..But all this rambling is not to say that you dont have the right idea,or intention.
I am not sure what it may be,but I think we are at a point where the spirit of
revolution can be heard within the hearts of true patriots as yourself..The hard
part is figuring out how to pull it off without joining the hundreds of thousands
of political prisoners who are behind bars as we speak.
Dont give up Professor Lehder,my Brother,,I dont mean to rain on your parade,
you have the exquisite spirit of freedom in your heart, and what's more, you have
the intellect, and conviction to make it happen!...I guess I'm sort of a constructive
pessimist, specializing in worst case scenarios, and lacking in viable alternatives.
There will be no easy solutions to address the slaying of the behomoth that our
demockrassy/empire has mutated into.....I hate to say it again,,but I'm kinda glad
I'm old,,in a sick sort of way.....Sorry for the negative ramblings...Keep the faith.

taxes etc.
that is truly shocking, kaptinemo. i'm gonna check out that website for sure.
Their own policies are hurting them, though. It takes more than a bigot and book of virtues to make a culture, more than narcs and prisons to make a society and more than a drug war to make an economy. Cynical as they are, they're losing here, and I, at least, can get uglier.

but i came back to tell you all this, as i was saying earlier:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks slumped at the opening on
Friday after the jobless rate surged in August to its highest level in nearly four years, inflaming fears that consumer spending will slide and cut further into corporate profits.

http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/010907/business_markets_stocks_dc_3.html

so don't by anything. get an alternative type job if you can - you're apt to be needing a new one soon anyway and you may as well get your place reserved at the flea market while you still can. give your old junk, if you don't want to sell it, to someone who itemizes so they can get a deduction when the good will truck comes.

we gotta get 'em where it really hurts: money. after all, that's what the war is all about, as we all know. in addition to fighting them over what's right and wrong, wise and foolish, take their money.

it's overdue time to start planning your taxes for 2001 and beyond. last year's 1040 shows that if you are single and made less than $7200 then you owe nothing. if you are married or married and have kids then of course you can make more before your income is taxable. help people plan their taxes, and reduce the money available to the g. i meet guys on the buses all the time carrying 'food boxes'. they tell me that they work a few months each year and then quit before their income becomes taxable. don't get me wrong - i want everyone to be wealthy - especially you - but let's not waste good money on evil people.

by the way, the g has already raided social security - just last week to the tune of $9 billion. in addition to talking about mj, talk to people about this. it's gonna piss them off. let retired people know that their benefits are likely to be reduced - that's what the g itself says. older people vote. tell them about taxes and Libs. they are already pissed at the medical establishment for the lousy treatment they're getting - talked down to by arrogant doctors and young health care workers who write them off as dead, non-contributing members of society. really - there's no bottom to their ugliness. what is the $9 billion for? as best as i can find from any article it's for "other operations." why is it need now? because of the chimerical surplus the reps were rubbing their hands together over just a few moonths ago.

Speakin' of "off topic"
....Here's some goofy gossip to lighten the day;

My ex-girlfriend tells a true story about a wild night in
Hollywood years ago,,and I believe it's true.....

The story goes,,that her,and her two high school friends were
up in Hollywood,,going to clubs, and getting into mischief, and
they ended up in a limo with Mickey Dolenz...one thing led to
another, and the ended up at some hotel,,,where one of the
three girls ended up "gettin' down",with Mickey,,,,'tee-hee-hee'
the story ends,,,,,with reports that Mickey had a really small penis,a mere
nubbin.........

I hope this tasteless and crass tidbit didnt offend anyone,,,if nothing
else,,it's an excellent example of true "off topicness".

I wish I could be so certain, Poisoned
But I go to sites like DEAWatch

http://members.aol.com/deawatch/daily.htm

just to see what the enemy are up to. Many of them are quite open in their racism, their heartlessness when it comes to MMJ patients (when they have the balls to comment on the subject at all; most refuse to say anything) and their general attitude towards the very people who pay their salaries. And this is what some of them are thinking:

It's the economy, stupid! Now is not the time to get an attitude with your G/S. Civvies in the thousands are losing their jobs and the CBO now says W. will need to hit the SocSec Trust fund to pay our salaries. In times of recession/depression/Bushion government employmemt is the only secure job one can have. So if anyone has a beef with their G/S, or DEA in general, they should swallow their spit and sit on their hands until the Bush Recession II is ended by a Democrat president in 2004.

On the bright side,

(On the "bright" side? And they think we're twisted)

when the economy gets bad people use more drugs to escape. That will mean more work for us and provide a distraction from our own misery. Hang tough. There is nothing a moron G/S or Administrator can do to you that is worse than being umemployed in a Bush recession.

I mean, how crass can you get?

global recession
On October 29, 1929 FW Woolworth was 158 dollars per share. On October 30, 1929 Woolworth's was 158 dollars per share. Not much change, if you would ask me. Yesterday there were 192 new lows on the boards. Quite a few, the most I have seen to date. Excite was 159 dollars per share in 1998. Yesterday it closed at a new low of 0.35 dollars, that is 35 cents. The market has crashed , the news just hasn't stated the plain fact of the matter. Does that surprise anyone?

FW Woolworth has been dropped from the big board never to be seen again. "A man whos keeps his nose to the grindstone keeps it out of other people's business." Just a few words of wisdom

Prohibition was lifted, beginning with a defiant NY state, in the midst of the depression. Millions of jobs were created. How can you help? explain to people about income taxes and libs, and DON'T BUY ANYTHING. This recession is global - one of the consequences of america's 'new order' is that we all go down together now and that makes it all the harder to get up again. the economy - world wide - has been propped up for a while now by the american consumer buying plastic crap at walmart. well, i'm hoping these idiots will soon be broke and have nowhere to sleep but on a heap of overdue bills and busted credit cards. things will change. keep your eyes open for ways to exploit it all.

about that white out thing.
and Lehder had a good point. About the
only good thing that could come out of the
possible global recession that may occur
is that they will ease up on the drug war -
like they did for Prohibition once the
Depression hit. (Better stoned and happy
than straight and edgy ).

voting, taxes, leadershit
i'm a registered libertarian and vote libertarian. when there's no libertarian listed, i vote for a third party - any third party, nazi, socialist, pansexual peace party ( i've never seen any candidates for pansexual peace party, but it's a legitimate party, you can register as a memeber at your local courthouse and they have a web page that has not been updated in years)

i have turned a few people to the libertarians by talking about taxes, not mj. i point out to them that the libs favor eliminating the irs and income tax. i don't tell them about mj. as the economy continues to deteriorate, this technique will work better and better. people are getting laid off in droves, their heavily mortgaged houses are about to drop sharply in price, people are going to be getting pissed. we can get drug reform candidates in on the coattails of other issues that matter to people more. you'd be surprised. often, people like the no tax idea pretty well for a moment, but then their sense of responsibility kicks in: "but how will we pay for things!?" then you gotta remind 'em about sales taxes state local and fed, import tax, license fees, capital gains tax, corporate income tax, grazing fees etc, and how the country managed to survive until about 190x without income tax. people like this, and i think it's the main thing republicrats fear and why there's no coverage on browne or presidential debates with libs. remember: if these people were not extraordinarily stupid we would not have had a drug war in the first place and you gotta treat them as such, talk to them in a way they can understand. you would be surprised how many voter registration cards i passed out to people promising to take them home and mail them in after i got them worked up over some of these other issues like taxes.

if you are expecting any kind of leadership from the shitheads in office, you need to make an appointment with dddd. it may be true, but i find it pathetic that bush - speaking here only in principle - would have to wait for england and canada to move before he could even suggest anything. leadership??? christ, people, these are pissant little countries and we could reduce their populations to four figures in a few minutes. we are suppposed to lead them - and we have - into the war on drugs.

I'm glad you took my critique with a grain of salt.
I still say that your Bush optimism is from outer space, but
I happen to be a good friend of Mickey Dolenz, and I think
I can get us backstage passes. This may be the last time
Bob Hope will be able to perform "Last Train to Clarksville",
and "Pleasant Valley Sunday",so I hope Peter Tork doesnt
back out at the last minute,,,,Mickey tells me that Peters
wife has been holding out for more money,,,and Mike Nesmith
is rather 'iffy' too......Not many people know,,but Mike,"wool
hat",Nesmith, made a fortune by investing in 'White Out',,you
know,,the stuff that was used to correct typing mistakes....This
last fact is strange,,,but actually true!!!!!

George Bush
Hi dddd,
I think Gary Johnson himself has been
quoted as saying its possible that President
Bush may do something positive once his
term progresses somewhat. It will get easier
for him too once Britain and Canada make the
leap.
I hope we all get front row tickets to
the Hope/Monkees tour. And I hope we all smoke
some REALLY good stuff before the show.

For goodness sake's
I watched the interview of Mr. Hutchinson on C-span yesterday morning. I have questioned as to whether or not he belongs to the human race. He qualifies, no doubt, a genuinely nice guy, I believe. It is too bad that he is now in the clutches of those who issue the directives at the DEA. I feel for him.

One of the most profound statements that I have ever read was spoken buy Willie Mays, the baseball great. He said, "It is easy to be good, it is hard to be good all of the time".

It has stuck in my memory ever since the day that I read it and has been indelibly etched there.

I will hope that our leaders can galvanize an effort and bring together a different approach to this so called war on drugs. I will hope that goodness will triumph. That the evil of it will finally be recognized and something good does finally happen. The old saw, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph over good is for good men to do nothing" has never been more evident than now. Take it to heart. If you don't have one, I feel sorry for you. It's the best thing you can have.

I'll holding my breath... Give me freedom to exhale.

Poisoned my friend....
..You are right about voting,,,,but jury duty,,,at least here in
California,is from DMV registration, not from voter registration.

...And I dont mean to sound rude,,or pessimistic,,,but if you think
there is some glint of hope, the dubya will somehow hear the voice
of reason, and justice,,,then you may also believe that Mr Bush did
his tax "rebate" thing,in the interests of helping the poor...I appreciate
your optimistic suggestions, but trying to give dubya the benifit of the
doubt,is like thinking that Ashcroft, and Hutchinson will start a new
new country music group with Ginger Baker on the drums, and Roy Clark
on guitar...........C'mon man....the Monkees having a new platinum hit
with Bob Hope on lead vocals,is more likely!.........I wish your hopes
were likely,,but I must respectfully inform you that there is more
chance of Strom Thurmond joining the Rolling Stones for the "Steel Wheelchair" tour
next year, than there is of dubya doing the things you suggest.

peace

There is hope for President Bush
There are some really good comments in this
thread.
Registering to vote is really good because
you might get on a jury and prevent an
atrocity.
But I think we should suspend judgement
on President Bush as long as we can. Bush
gets along well with Gary Johnson and Gary
has indicated that there is a chance that
George will eventually do the right thing.
And being Republican might not be that bad -
look at Gary!

Voting
...I must agree,,,one of the most valuable, and significant things
that can be done to kill,or at least slow down the beast that our
ruling powers have mutated into,,,is to try and get people to vote.
..But it's not an easy thing to do.The overall picture of the monstrous
government is so disgusting, that alot of people just say,"f*ck it",,,
especially after seeing the absurd installation of the the shrub, via
the Florida/Supreme Court sham.......I really like the idea of a national
holiday for election day, after all, what is more important than a national
election?,,,surely not the easter bunny,,,thank-freekin-giving,,,or the
now dull glory of Independence day,in light of our severely diminished
freedoms,and rights....
....none the less,,at this point, voting is perhaps still the most significant
way to make a change,,and the wise activist,,is one who will work to
encourage their share of the non-voters,to get out and make themselves
heard.......Some of the most prevalent negative factors, that have been
designed into the voting registration system of today,is that you cannot
simply go and vote,with you I.D.,and SS#,,,no,,you must "register"to
vote,so your info can be branded into a database, that can be accessed
by everyone from the IRS,to the FBI...
We have this bloated, asshole government,,that can make sure most everyone
gets burned for their taxes,,they can make sure that law enforcement
can track down your ass in seconds,,they can fund absurd space stations,
and multi-billion dollar drug wars,,but they cant even do the one, simple
thing that the whole of democracy depends on,,and that is make it so everyone
in the country can vote in an efficient, and honest manner....The first thing
tax money should be used for,is to make sure that everyone can vote in an
honest, and user friendly manner!...none of this computer voting bullshit,,,that
would make it way too simple to pull another Florida on the sheeple..There's no
reason why a good old mechanical voting system could not be used,,,but...

...the sad part is,,,,that it aint gonna happen......The system of voting is just
going to mutate further into the nebulous results like we saw in Florida, and
elsewhere around the country,,,and like I said before,,,
,,,not much really matters,as long as the media can poison the masses with
tall tales of unpunched chads,,,fairy tales of evil drugs,,,ridiculous concepts
of unintelligible economic surpluses, and Mother Goose prosperity....

....There is no bigger threat to we the people,,,than the corporate/government
owned and operated news!....It's the biggie,,,it trumps all the other cards,,and
stacks the deck in a way that aint pretty........
..If I'm wrong,,,,,I'll eat a piece of cat shit!........That's how serious I am!!

JAH is no secret!

Go REGISTER and VOTE
Listen to pissedonandoff, lookinside, and Lehder. These people sum it up pretty well. If you are registered to vote, go vote. If you are not then get registered then go vote. When around freinds, remind them they need to vote. Inform as many people that you can, to regiser and vote. I belive that if all the people would vote that are eligible, alot of unpopular laws would already have been changed. If we have the numbers to prove, we will be the ones the vote seeking politicians will listen to, otherwise they will not get their position they seek. Voters like myself, pissedonandoff, lookinside, Lehder, yourself(if you will vote), and many more will vote against them, their twisted thoughts, and corkscrew mindset. Talk to your politcians, see if they are real or just giving you the breeze. There are politicians out there that are willing to change the laws, and will when givin the chance, however we need more, and they need our support. The more voters that have open minds, the better the chance of open minded lawmakers. If only the "status quo" votes, we will have "staus quo lawmakers" making "status quo laws". If you do not exercise your right to vote, you have done yourself, your family, your freinds, and others around you a great misdeed.

My revenge on the Democrats
The DNC called looking for a donation and the volunteer on the phone got an earful from me about the war on pot and the destruction and lying and cheating and killing and hypocrisy and social inequality... and how deeply the Democrats had become involved in it and why...

And I ended up taking the guy out of his job. He quit. He got riled up and quit!

Get to the polls
The only way to change things is through voting. The next elections are next year and you should make a commitment to yourself now to vote. I am a litmus test person on this issue alone. There is nothing more important than freedom and what we have here is an invasion of our freedoms by a government that has overreach its constitutional powers and people can not voice their opinion in a normal manner for fear of the government protecting its position.

Remember that Washington and Jefferson grew hemp and Franklin made the first paper in America out of hemp and now it is a felony. Modern science did not have a discovery that lead to this situation. It is somebodies political invention to obtain some objective. With hemp a good case can be the oil companies and the cotton and wood pulp industries. The fact that hemp remains illegal is a big, big red flag that something besides our health is behind MJ legalization.

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. Plan now to vote and adopt a MJ litmus test. Your vote may make the difference.

Good Luck, Imprint
It's a "Dear John" letter, Imprint, wherin the recipient is blown off: Byeee. (Of course he means efficacy, not efficiency, etc.)

I sent some letters, too. Have not received any replies yet. How long did you wait for the response? How long do you suppose you'll be waiting for some results? Not to give you a hard time, but it's hopeless!!

My opinion changes daily. Today I think that the drug war will not end, but will have a chance of gradually fading after the U.S. population suffers a biological attack by Osama bin Laden. McCarthyism never ended, but faded as our attentions focused on newly perceived enemies in Vietnam. The Vietnam War ended not because of its unpopularity, but when corporate ambitions were assured greater profits in solving the nation's drug scourge. Well, something else hate-worthy will have to come along before the drug war ends. Americans need something to hate. At the moment, it's you! Let us hope that our next enemy will be a foreign one, or someone at least not resembling me, and that we will ourselves be far beyond draftable age. If there is sufficient hatred in our souls for the new enemy, the drug war may lighten some then. Patience.
PAZ,
'Carlos'

For Imprint
Political Popycock. Typical talking out of both sides of his mouth as usual. He talks many words but will not tell you where he really stands. Wants your vote. Between the lines it sounds like he would legalise, but as long as people are watching, he will not say anything to jepardize his position as a bureaucrat. Just the kind of politician we do not need. That is what is wrong with our system, this leads to the current events as of recent. As far as his claims for keeping your concern in mind for the 107th Congress, I belive he will have other concerns. VOTE THIS MAN OUT OF OFFICE! Time for him to get a real job. It's a new dawn. Thank you for sharing this info. I'm sure you will get many responses.

I hate politicians
This is a little off topic with the above article but below is the response I received from Congressmen Mike Honda here in San Jose, CA. Any opinions on how I should answer this guy? Is it me or does the third paragraph read strange? I’m not totally sure he is for or against medical marijuana. It seems like he is sees the benefits but doesn’t have any plans to do anything about it.
<>

Dear John:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the medical uses of marijuana. I respect the opinions of my constituents and always appreciate hearing your concerns.

There are two federal agencies that control the use of drugs in our country. These are the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The FDA manages the research that ensures that a drug to be used in the United States is safe and effective. The policies outline standards for testing the efficiency of a drug, administering a drug, and constituting an unsafe drug. The DEA is responsible for enforcing drug laws. Generally speaking, these agencies
have established a well thought our policies to endorse the use of a particular drug in America.

I support sound, sensible policies concerning marijuana. From what I currently know, it appears that the benefits patients receive from the medical use or marijuana outweigh the adverse consequences from broader use. While I am supportive of the medical uses of marijuana, I do believe
that we should continue to study this issue and research alternative medicines. Rest assured, I share your concerns and will keep your concerns in mind as this issue is discussed in the 107th Congress.

Once again, thank you for contacting me on this important and timely issue. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,
Mike Honda
Member of Congress

Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right.

Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right.
In order to bring more media attention to this tragedy we need to make a lot of noise. We need the likes of Gary Johnson, Jessie Ventura, and Normal to attend the funerals and deliver the eulogies. We need to have thousands of people, attend the services, just like the police and firemen do. If this could happen the media cannot completley ignore this. If we get more media attention it can possibly help to educate the ones who need it. E-Mail Gary Johnson's office, and Normal, lets try to get them there. This will show to the nation and the families of those who died, that the efforts of these modern day patriots will not be in vain. To sit and do nothing is what the opposition would like to see. They would love to just see it go away. I will make several posts of this comment. Do not be angry or surprised if you see this again. I will post it in other places to get more attention. I like the idea of the movie thing that people are talking about. E-Mail Hollywood also. Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your right.
