Law Enforcement: When the Drug War Snares Suburbs

medical Eighty-year-old Lyman "Sandy" Sanborn is an unlikely target of the drug war. A childhood acquaintance of Ronald Reagan, he piloted C-47 transport planes in World War II for a special unit that reported directly to Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. Settling in Roseville after the war, Sanborn became a lifelong Republican Party activist and staunch supporter of Placer County law enforcement agencies.

That's why it was such a shock to the fervently anti-drug veteran when the Special Investigations Unit of the Placer County Sheriff's Department busted down his door in the early morning of July 1, 1999.

When the Drug War Snares Suburbs
Lyman "Sandy" Sanborn,an eighty-year-old, fervently (until now)anti-drug veteran, lifelong Republican Party activist and staunch supporter of Placer County law enforcement agencies was mistakenly raided.

Screaming deputies in SWAT get-up pointed guns at him and his 77-year-old wife. Cops handcuffed his grown children, who were living at the time in his home. Sanborn's horrified young grandchildren witnessed the raid.

According to the affidavit, marijuana was found in Mr. Sanborn's garbage cans left out on the street where cops can legally search. (So, we establish that police can legally poke around in your trash.)

"All that matters," according to Placer County and Deputy Sheriff Grant's lawyer, a man named Huskey, is that Grant found marijuana in suspects' trash cans left out for pickup. That alone establishes sufficient probable cause for the deputy's search warrants to hold up in court."

And what about the pot supposedly found in the trash can of Roseville resident Sandy Sanborn who was mistakenly raided?

"That doesn't mean there was no marijuana in their garbage," asserted Huskey. "We don't know who had access to the garbage.

This is ridiculous. Even O.J. must be laughing at this one.

hope the Kubbies get windo of this. the Placer county drug dogs are out of control and there's some backlash in wait for them.

"was "fresh green and still moist" and "recently cut from a mature marijuana plant."
"

yeah, the marihuana cultivator usually throw their fresh green moist marihuana in the trash can..

(Raucous, sardonic laughter)
GeheimeStadtspolizei motto: Only the guilty need fear!

What will it take for America to wake up? A mass execution in a stadium, like they do in China?

Many years ago I read a fascinating book, called The Devil's Advocate. In it, it presented a future United States, in which all Constitutional rights have been stripped from citizens (and you can get an automatic jail sentence - or worse - for even mentioning the Constitution) under the aegis of 'national emergencies' and incessant foreign wars.

Because of the sheep-like acquiescence of the populace to this tyranny, the Resistance hatches a plan where they infiltrate the government by being even more oppressive, more tyrannical, more overbearing and brutal. But instead of the fabianistic, incremental, ever-so-slow turning of the screws on the people, as had been done in order to 'acclimatize' them to serfdom, they 'turned up the gas' and went into a full fledged reign of terror. In the course of doing so, they eventually force the populace to rise up and throw off the yoke of slavery they so mildly accepted before. Then, even the staunchest supporters of the bloody-handed State turned on it and rose up to strike it down.

Mr. Sanborn is one such True Believer who has now had his rose-colored glasses viciously slapped from his face by his 'protectors'. He now is seeing what his support for his precious War on Drugs has bought him. Pray we have more such so rudely awakened from their self-induced moral slumber.

Otherwise...that book may become prophecy. Pray to whatever Deity you claim that we don't get that far. Civil wars...never are.

Payback Time
This is amazing, coming as it does from a very conservative newspaper.

It might be divine retribution for these so called law enforcement officers to end up with the Folsom Prison Blues. Ever heard the expression, "Watch your back!"? Well, they had better.

Would that this could happen to more Republicans..
Poor ol' Sandy, looks like the policies he and his party have supported all these years rose up and bit him in the backside. I would think he would be proud to wear his family's trauma as a badge of honor, after all, small price to pay for the holy Drug War. I would have loved to have been there when the ol' coot realized what had happened.
