Posted by FoM on August 08, 2001 at 08:40:04 PT By Diane Francis, National Post Source: National Post Marijuana has emerged as a multi-billion-dollar industry in Canada largely because the United States maintains a vigorous opposition to pot while Canadian authorities turn a blind eye to its cultivation and possession. In the final segment of a three-part series, National Post columnist Diane Francis speaks to people who are leading the charge to legalize marijuana. The Compassion Club Wellness Centre in the city's rundown Eastside is a leafy oasis where clients can get a massage, acupuncture, naturopathy and as much pot as they want. I loved that article: short, sweet, savage in its attack against puerile government propaganda. What is the anti-drug for government moralism? Power tripping? Its attachment to micro-management of the people's personal lives? It is time to take the power away: vote for no candidate who will fail to uphold your civil rights. What is the anti-drug for an unemployed politician? It's probably becoming a lobbyist! [ Post Comment ] |

We're older, and are the Establishment. We're the generation of the 1960s. Those attitudes they thought had been eradicated were sitting there, percolating. At the same time there are one or two younger generations that have grown up with marijuana readily available. With this combination of forces, they will be able to achieve something that a single generation could not achieve by itself. So to the forces opposing them, I'd say: be afraid, be very afraid.
