It's Time Feds Woke Up and Inhaled The Aroma |
Posted by FoM on August 07, 2001 at 07:37:37 PT By Brian Kappler, The Gazette Source: Montreal Gazette Allan Rock went down a mine shaft the other day, and there the federal health minister met an idea whose time has come. It's becoming increasingly clear this summer that the dam has burst: official legal toleration of marijuana is now inevitable in Canada. It's not if, any more, but merely when. And so it's time to ask how? Will our leaders start now to figure out how to do this right? Sometimes things are going on in society that slip below the politicians' radar screen. Quietly but relentlessly, like a fire in a coal seam, an attitude spreads and politicians must scramble to catch up. The slower-witted ones may bail against the tide for a while, but eventually they give up. Snipped Home Comment Email Register Recent Comments Help |

I haven't laughed so hard while sober in a long time! I could just see Bill Bennett and McCaffrey, dressed up in Uncle Same suits, standing on street corners and exposing themselves to passersby. Oh, God, what an image... [ Post Comment ] |

I am glad to see the Canadians can make decisions for themselves. Who needs the United States waving their d*ck around at everyone anyway. Although I live here, I have to say "screw the U.S., it's corrupt". [ Post Comment ] |

I like this article because it show how change has really happened in laws covering social mores. When things start to change on the ground, authorites are incensed. Then they make a few changes to look like they are "with it", but upon doing that the dam has burst and eventually it's all over. The examples show how this has happened before: it is now very difficult to image a time when divorce was so difficult to achieve. We a liviing in an interesting time where we can see another wide-spread social change happening before our eyes. And of course now we think it will take forever. But it won't, so relax and enjoy this historical moment. [ Post Comment ] |
