medical Sometimes, it seems nothing can take the giggle out of marijuana research. "You've got to have a sense of humour," says Dr. Mark Ware, who's about to conduct a first-ever clinical trial to measure the effects of smoked pot and pain. "I think I've heard it all and then somebody has another one."

Usually, he says, people snicker and ask if he has any samples to give away. Then there are the friends who are eager to volunteer for his study.

Once More into the Breach
Let me repeat. Mark Ware is an honest, courageous researcher, who in the view of many is undermining a brilliant career by taking on this task. It is a great credit to Health Canada that they have shown the wisdom to put their trust in such a person.

Now, D4. I understand your frustration. We are all forced to play the game whether we choose to or not. The reason for all this "research" is to legitimize cannabis as medicine in the eyes of modern medicine according to state-of-the-art techniques. Only this will convince the journal editors, the mainstream prescribing doctors, a doubting public, and most skeptical of all, the legislating politicians.

Is this the way you want it? No! Is it the way that I want it? No! I'd like to see safe and effective medicine available to patients who need it today. I accept, however, that the process needs to be followed for all the other factors. Mark Ware is just the man for the job. I wish I were there with him

I still think it's absurd
......"...Dr. Mark Ware, who's about to conduct a first-ever clinical trial to measure the effects of smoked pot and pain. "

..How much bigger of a pile of CRAP can we find,,,,,,??

I will agree that there are legitimate ways to measure pain, and Dr. Ware is
well intentioned, and the "clinical trial",is probably a positive thing to
further legitimize Marijuana as medicine,,,but the still steamin' ,,stinky
pile of crap,,is that it does not take a "clinical trial",to know about
the good things Marijuana does!...I guess the reason it pisses me off so
much,,is that it seems to presuppose that all the people who claim it
helps them, dont count.....We need to have a "clinical trial",to make sure
all those evil cancer patients, and AIDs victims weren't just lying because
they wanted to get stoned,,,so now we are going to ask them in a clinical
setting,,,,it's kinda like this,,,,if people said that a a soldering iron,,when
inserted in their ass,,caused alot of pain,,you would not really question
them,,or hold a "clinical trial" to see if they were actually in pain...you
would not need to conduct further research,,or clinical trial to prove that
an icicle inserted in the seared orifice provided considerable relief....
...I'm sorry for the off-color analogy,,,but it is absurd to be testing something
like pot, which has been around longer than liquor or tobacco......it's kinda
like having clinical trials on potatoes to make sure they are a good source
of food......

strangely yours....dddd

gee, a thinking doc...
Jamaica also rejected the study, perhaps in
fear of recrimination from U.S. National
Institutes of Health which provides funding for medical
research in Jamaica.

Ya got that right. We self-righteous bastards up north
are gonna keep our money unless y'all can "study"
cannabis and come up with somethin' negative about it.
Preferably somethin' new since all them damn kiddie
pushers that ain't totin' the party line keep logically
slaying the old stuff. Nothin' we warriors hate more than
bein' one-upped by intelligent stoners. Why won't their
brain cells just die like the pdfa says they should??

"The biggest challenge is trying to talk about
studying smoked cannabis as a drug and being taken
seriously," Ware said, his bookshelf loaded with
literature on marijuana use.

And the easiest way to keep cannabis prohibition in
place (for the time being, at any rate) is to
AVOID mentioning how jail is a better
alternative for MMJ users than using a substance that
has no lethal dose for humans. Action/reaction, folks.
Simple as that.
