| Hemp-Based Ice Cream Hits Madison |

Rich Ray's co-op is drawing double-takes with an orange neon sign that beckons passers-by to try " HempScream, " a frozen treat with ingredients derived from hemp, a relative of marijuana. " A lot of people have stopped in since I put up my sign, " Ray said. The product advertised in the window of Ray's Hempen Goods is made from hemp milk -- water and flour milled from imported hemp seeds. The milk is sweetened and flavored, then run through an ice cream machine and served between two vegan hemp cookies. Produced in Boulder, Colo., HempScream is distributed widely in that state as well as some Arizona markets and Madison. Ray's co-op began selling the treats this spring at a cost of around $4. While the product's price is higher than that of many frozen treats, Ray and Dean Kallas, the grocery manager, say that health foods often cost more because many are produced in small batches from hard-to-get ingredients. Each ounce of HempScream provides one gram of complete protein, just a little more than in an ounce of whole milk. " Nutritionally, it really stands up, " Kallas said. Hemp-based ice cream has been available in England and other countries for some time. Other foods also can be made from hemp, such as pretzels and health bars. Hemp may be best known for its narcotic element, THC, in marijuana, it would be virtually impossible to get high from eating hemp foods, producers say. There is nothing illegal about hemp food because it does not contain THC, said Madison police officer Benjamin Vanden Belt. Madison, Wis. | I've not seen hemp ice cream for sale, but I was once at a Whole Life Expo in San Francisco where someone was handing out hemp ice cream cones to everyone. I was quite surprised at how good it tasted. This is a treat everyone can love, except for those who want more fat. If you ever get a chance to try this stuff, do so, [ Post Comment ] |

| Your words are encouraging...and we all need encouragement from time to time. This has been a long resistance. We all get fits of despair and discouragement. It goes with the territory. But you are right....we can never give up and never quit. Many of us have invested a huge chunk of our lives to this cause. Many years means many of those despairing times, but as time passes most of us have only become more convinced that our cause is just and the steely determination that has been stretched so thin from time to time has only developed more strength. If we cannot all live to see the end of this war we will die knowing that those still standing and still joining us will continue to fight until we have restored liberty and freedom to the lives of our fellow human beings. | High, all. Double scoop of B.C. bud, with cookies. 103 degrees outside. I'm hot, sweaty, tired, and about to pop a bud in a bowl, and chill. Thought I would write you all a note. Sometimes, in the stressful battle of Cannabis liberation, something gets overlooked. Gratitude to our soldiers. Many of you have been activists for a decade, two, or more. You've held up the front, while many, many of us only toked and joked. You were there in the sixties, re-discovering Cannabis, maybe a few other illicits, and also discovering that you were in a *FREE* country. Free countries have individual rights. One of ours, is the right to protest. When you discovered this, and the wonderful, spiritual herb, you put two and two together, and that,unmistakably, But there were the establishment, with laws saying what you were doing in your Pursuit of Happiness, was unlawful. WHAT THE HAY??? So you protested these laws, and the Antis upped the anti. You gained ground, then lost more than you had before the gains. These battles resulted, after more than thirty years, in the slow distruction of the Constitutional rights of ALL Americans, by their own government, as evidenced today. Was that your fault? Dumb question. No. The fault lies with the law makers. Rather than listen to reason, history, ethics, logic, spiritualists, or science, they refused to give the people, (I'm refering to the states that had decrimalized, and others that were considering it.) the change they asked for. Instead, the federal government assumed rights never given it by Congress. Today, more and more Americans, from Teetotalers to Tokers, are taking the steps necessary to change these laws, or threaten revolution. The government is listening, though it pretends to be deaf. The more progress that is made, it seems, the more determined the opponent. The war on drugs in surmounting to a climax. Will it be peacful, as we all hope, or will it require more adament actions from the people? As I sit here, Cannabinoids nestled in their receptors, I want to give you all a very heartfelt chunk of gratitude. This is to all the oldtimers, and the ones that will start tomorrow. Though it seems like most of our time is spent against the wall, we are making history. Not only on a country level, but a global one. Never say die, never say quit. Onward Cannabis Soldiers. Peace.
