cannabis The Pownal Board of Selectmen is accusing the state of failing to help the town stop the Cumberland County Hemp Festival planned for next weekend, but District Attorney Stephanie Anderson said Pownal officials should blame themselves.

Selectmen on Thursday mailed letters to every household urging residents to lobby state and county officials. "THE STATE OF MAINE WON'T HELP!!" said the letter, which includes 22 exclamation points. "This isn't right! Only the state has the resources to deal with this state problem."

Young people...
Got news for ya... all the propaganda that was aimed at the kids in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s backfired. I am a product of D.A.R.E. I smoke weed. Why? Because I found out it won't kill me. Was it easy? Nope, I did my research. Did I go on to do crack or heroin? Hell no. I can draw my own damn line between hard and soft drugs thank you. I smoke weed and I like it much better than alcohol, and God knows, if what I read and what I have seen doctors preach is true it is much safer as well. Maybe the marijuana cigarette has more tar, and the same carcinogens as tobacco... but I don't smoke 40 cigs a day. More like 2 or 3 a week with friends. Health effects? Little to none. Addiction? In your dreams. So I will sit here and watch you drink coffee and smoke tobacco like a government puppet and I will engage in my God given right to a good time at no expense to public safety--marijuana.

Hey FoM!
I tried to e-mail this article to myself but it didn't send it. Maybe an error on my part, I'll try again. I've been hoping you'd add this feature. Thanks for the excellent work!

What freedom to assemble?
It's not like the Constitution or the Bill of Rights mean anything anymore. Pownal could welcome this event & reap huge profits. I guess they aren't bright enough to realize that. I've been to festivals like these with 20,000+ people & have never seen anyone cause any problems(except the police). Christen should thank the town of Pownal for the free publicity. What dumb*sses!!!

Maybe they would rather have the KKK
Hey if they got a problem with this little Hemp festival promoting environmentaly safe products thats cool cause I tell you what Jeff Berry stays right down the road from here .... maybe they would rather he come there with his KKK clan and put on a protest. I don't like the KKK or what they stand for but I will call him up if this festival is unduly harrassed.

$50 thou for Free assembly ???
These people have no right stopping this festival. A similar festival is held on the Indiana University Campus every year called the Calmfest. $ 50,000 to provide security is ludicrous Calmest security was provided by one older gentleman who was part of campus security.THERE WERE NO ARRESTS THAT I AM AWARE OF!!!

Pownal, Maine: Victims of Peace and Harmony
How sad that Pownal, Maine will have to be subjected to the terror associated with a peaceful gathering. How sad that the town's businesses will have to likely serve and (horrors!) take money from the thousands who take part in this peaceful gathering. Oh, what a shame that the poor, innocent people of Pownal have to grate their teeth in agony knowing full well that just outside their town is a group of harmony-loving people celebrating perhaps the greatest plant God has ever made, a plant with over 50,000 uses, a plant that has literally saved lives, including the life of one George Herbert Walker Bush.

What a calamity! If our president, George Walrus Bush, and his Vice president, Dick Carpenter Cheney, had any sense, they'd immediately send a disaster relief team to help the poor people of Pownal cope with this awful tragedy.

Pu-leeeeeeze!

sheeple

You know, even though I want to, it's hard to blame the sheeple. They've had so much of the Drug Propaganda Warrior cucumber shoved so far up their anal orifice that they can't ever walk straight again.

The biggest challenge is to change the minds of younger people who will eventually grow into leadership positions and make different judgements.

Well, we can hope :-}

How can anyone read this and NOT be angry?
I'm not going to give my opinion on this. Rather, I am simply going to post parts of this that I think are important. Read them again, and think about what you're reading. It's pretty f*ck*d up.

...said the letter, which includes 22 exclamation points. "This isn't right! Only the state has the resources to deal with this state problem."

Pownal Board of Selectmen Chair Sue Mack said Pownal officials are frustrated. "I can't believe the state will stand by and watch a tiny town get victimized," she said in an interview on Friday.

victimized?
