I can't imagine reading something like this in a non-alternative paper in the United States. Where are the quotes from police officers telling us that marijuana has more cancer-cuasing substances than tobacco, that it is a gateway to harder drugs, and most of all that any use of it will send the wrong message to the kids? Maybe it is the law in the US that you have to insert such disclaimers. And then the is the statement that "medical marijuana is a stalking horse for decriminalization" which is true, but not in the way they mean. Medical marijuana is something that almost anyone can, and should, support; it is obviously the right thing to do. But unlike morphine, which is also medically useful, marijuana is so relatively harmless that once people are exposed to it medically many of the marijuana myths that have kept it illegal are exposed, and thus the foundation of prohibition is badly weakened.
